[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

never… you will never get one

Roblox said that some people have to apply for that, it’s not automatic for everyone.

Idk how or where.

minecraft is where it’s at i swear. Easy mix of server software, an easy language to learn, and a great community with reach on more platforms.

ehhhhh

I already want to quit Roblox, this change is only encouraging me.

Please give us the ability to sort through music and sound effect categories. Don’t name music tracks things like “door open” which make it impossible to find what you’re looking for.

I have a feeling that this decision was irreversible.

Roblox staff post great updates most of the time, and only I’ve only seen a few been controversial (no events, forced new materials, Talent Hub, etc). However, it’s clear that they usually revert or delay the update if a large amount of negative criticism is received.

Even if they want to continue this update, they would probably have extended the due date at the very least or just avoided automatically privating old audios. Either way, if they had the ability to change their minds, they would have at least done so by now.

However, they haven’t, and Roblox remains silent about this update. Therefore, I think that Roblox was forced to removed copyrighted audio by March 22nd as part of a class action lawsuit that was filed on copyrighted audio.

Although nothing is confirmed, I believe that Roblox’s legal department tried to quickly solve the lawsuit by agreeing to removing all copyrighted audio within a short timeframe, then told the engineering department to work on the solution (to just private all the audios).

I see so many people say they are going to quit Roblox, but I doubt Roblox will ever be affected. Most of its top developers will probably keep it going, and new developers will constantly come to the platform. I feel that in reality, not much people are going to quit, and that most will eventually just accept losses and move on.

TL;DR: Roblox can’t do much about this and we’ll just have to move on.

Finally someone that’s using there brain instead yelling at Roblox. People out here really think Roblox is doing this update on purpose

Would be fun to get roblox mad, tho.

What are the chances?!

Uhhmmmmm…thats classified.

I am not going to leave, but I will probably quit for a while. Tho, roblox is all I got. I live in a boring area.

Oh god the drama didn’t end there for sure

U h h h.

Unity

Unreal engine

Godot

Game maker Studio 2

There’s a bunch of other engines that are so much better than Roblox, and there’s nothing stopping us from moving to these much better alternatives.

You seem to forget the fact that Roblox relies on our creativity and imaginative visions to succeed, and that if NOBODY used Roblox studio then that means there would be no games for any of the players to enjoy.

WE are the backbone of this platform, WE provide this platform content. We have every right to be angry about this and to say that we owe EVERYTHING to Roblox just shows how much of a yes-man you are acting like.

And conversely, we are also responsible for making sure that we are treated fairly. We have to stand up when we are being mistreated. Lest we get trampled over like how we are right now.

Stop it, both of you (@markthemat3, @seanieplays). Keep your unnecessary comments that are out of the main context to yourselves. If you are going to answer, do it in a way that contributes to the topic and does not encourage an argument.

If you want to continue your discussion, please do it by private message and not here.

The only thing you will do is get a warning and deletion of your comments from the Developer Forum moderation team.

What the hell are you talking about. Literally, am I not allowed to give an opposing opinion

You are forming and initializing an argument by simply someone who wants to opt out of the Roblox platform. If he wants to opt out, then let him do it and don’t comment or give any opinion about their decision, if he wants to make it public, well, let him make it public and the moderators will decide whether to remove his comment or not. It’s as simple as that. End of discussion.

I find it very frustrating how the majority of these comments are not respectful and are not contributing positively to the discussion at all.

First of all, this isn’t Roblox’s fault, this is the music industry’s fault. Roblox was caught in a class action lawsuit with the music industry and is required to do this by law.
Blindly hating Roblox for this is wrong. I get that they aren’t handling it well, but they’re trying, and that’s what counts. They could have easily removed UGC audios all together, which is ACTUALLY a reason you’d want to complain like you do.

Second of all, the “Let’s have a strike” mentality, and the “I’m quitting Roblox” is only making things worse, and it does not help the situation. Roblox is trying their hardest to compensate for a situation they have no control over. We all understand their moderation is not the greatest, but they need a quick response to the copyright issue, and sadly, this is the only option.

The only thing that makes this update bad is the fact that people have to re-add audios. That’s basically it. I get that you like old games with audio but Roblox can only do so much about it, as old games already get the short end of the stick anyway. All games with old worlds will eventually lose their main functions, it’s how updates work.
Roblox even mentioned that they are compensating the wave of removed audios by adding a similar amount to their own catalog. I’m sure the big developers will find a way to fix these issues but it’ll take a lot of effort.

You can’t blindly hate Roblox for dealing with the copyright law. As much as it may be irritating, sadly that’s how the music industry works. Roblox only falls victim, so blaming Roblox is not ideal in the slightest.

I’m honestly surprised the DevForum moderators even let it get this bad, hopefully things get better in these replies, as the drama in the situation eventually settles.
When I first heard about this I thought it was so much worse. I was really wrong. It’s actually not as bad as it could’ve been.
