I’d rather not chalk it up to people “complaining like they do”: With how Roblox seemed to have handled such a drastic update like this, the overwhelmingly negative response to it was honestly expected. Yes, people have defiantly been over-dramatic about it and the back-and-fourth arguing can get tiresome, but it is kinda understandable why people would be upset as they are.
As someone who did their fair share of listening to Aphex Twin and other copyrighted songs in-game before, saying that Roblox didn’t do anything wrong would be, at least, partially false. Roblox has definitely taken steps to negate this thing from happening, but they didn’t seem to do enough to stop people from continuing to upload bypassed audios in the long term. And again, Roblox could easily defend their case when it comes to the lawsuit they had (Bringing up Zeezy’s post about the lawsuit again).
There are way better solutions to this problem rather than restricting how many audio files people can upload and telling them that they have to reupload their back load of sound effects and music. Even if this was the only solution, they could’ve done it in a way to where they aren’t crippling smaller developers, either on accident or on purpose is up for you to decide.
That’s it? Not the fact that an entire library of other sound effects and music is essentially get wiped out? Not the fact that audios hosted under a group wont work in a group’s game(s)? Not the short time period Roblox gave for developers to reupload ALL of their games audios? Not the small monthly audio upload limits for certain people? Then again, you have the 2000 per month limit, that likely doesn’t affect you much compared to other, smaller developers . And to refer to a bit you said in a older message.
This isn’t very exciting to me as it might be to you. Being limited on the amount of audio files you can upload because you didn’t do this or because you didn’t do that can suck for smaller developers, and could probably cause a divide between the bigger Roblox developers and the smaller ones. Yes, there might be that new library of music and sounds Roblox uploaded, but for people who want a specific sound that they want to upload, if they hit their monthly limit beforehand, either it be 10 or 2000, they’re essentially out of luck until the next month. The limit sucks in general, in my honest opinion.
That’s something I can partially agree on, it’s expected that older games are bound to gradually break as newer updates roll out over time, that’s just how Roblox is. But even more recent games could end up breaking to certain degrees because of this update, some of them not as well maintained anymore. Leaving a lot of older games in the dust because their audios got caught in the crossfire doesn’t seems right to me.
Yay! Stock audios! That’s cool and all, but even that’s it’s own double edged sword.
Honestly, me too I guess. But hey, anger can do some wacky things.
While it might not be as bad to you, it could definitely be as bad to other developers, composers and anyone else who plays Roblox. Not everyone is going to have a equal result to this update, especially when you look at it now where people are already dealing with complications with reuploading their audio files for their games. While some might ride the waves just fine, others might end up getting swept away with the issues this update brings.
