[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

This is essentially the reason why Roblox is doing this. Most audio uploaded to the Toolbox by Roblox is copyrighted content and they have been getting in trouble recently because of it by various coorporations and industries. They do not really have a choice.

In my point of view, this is still not a very good update, as Roblox evidently does not consider the consequences. What I mean by this is, thousands of solo developers will have their projects ruined, which could have benifited Roblox. But no, they decide to go along with this and ignore the consequences, acting as if this is some ā€œnormal update.ā€

Roblox, you have to understand that this is an update you must consider more thoughtfully. If this ruins your reputation, we developers are NOT to blame!

So basically am i not allowed to download the audio from the toolbox that i had put in my game to reupload so i can actually use them in my game?

You can still use audio from the Toolbox, however this audio change is going to be implemented on March 22nd, unless otherwise stated.

I believe they also released a built-in tool in Roblox Studio which essentially shows you which audio assets will continue to work after this change.

Worst update ever, i have only 10 audios limit, what if i have to upload for example 14 audios, that soon will be private, by my self, but i dont want to give Roblox private information? I have to wait a whole month, thanks this will break a lot of games(including games that made by new developers).

Also what about ā€œAllow Copyingā€ option? This updates contradicts that.

If youā€™re using SFX, you can stitch the audio together and play them using time stamps.

MonsterCat does have good music, but in the context of most games its use is very limited. It might work for intermission music but other than that thereā€™s not a whole lot you can do with it.

A lot of audios commonly used are by people like Waterflame, DM DOKURO, Kevin MacLeod (creator of that good olā€™ audio used in the 2013 Egg Hunt ā€œDarkest Childā€), and countless other copyright free music. I imagine since these werenā€™t OFFICIALLY uploaded by these people or by ROBLOX themselves, they will be private now. I know full on strictly copyrighted songs are posted on the library, but a LOT of audios are copyright free already which devs with common decency tend to only use and give credit to the original creators. Which, artists are glad to let people use their audio as long as they are credited.

Literally all ROBLOX has to do to make everyone more happy with this update is to make audios FROM NOW ON private, instead of making all previously uploaded audios private. Iā€™d imagine it wouldnā€™t be that difficult to scan existing audios for copyright infringement or let moderation naturally do its thing and have the bigger copyright breaching audios get weeded out over time.

Regardless, with ROBLOX being such a big platform and them now giving users more power than ever to upload copyright audio, these music companies are going to just have to suck it up and understand ROBLOX does enforce copyright rules but that itā€™s impossible to flawlessly moderate all copyright material. Unfortunately, we live in a world where music companies can get away with all sorts of nonsense.

Iā€™m not certain on that yet, but I will look into it and see if I can find an answer.

This sounds like a horrible idea, Iā€™m not talking about the free audio part, thatā€™s amazing, Iā€™m talking about the fact that you have to replace every audio in your game thatā€™s not created by you or Roblox/Monstercat and is over 6 seconds long, certain games, like Jukeā€™s Towers of Hell will have to update possibly hundreds of audio files, and this is even worse if you are not verified and arenā€™t a developer and have to wait a full month for 10 audios, I understand that the main reason why your doing this is because of a recent lawsuit, but hereā€™s a better solution: Have moderators check audio files for copy righted material and automatically exchange audios from people like Kevin Macleod and Waterflame as copyright free music.

Been migrating audios from my games to audios I upload to my account and seems like the sound plugin maybe has a rounding issue. Max is 6 seconds to be able to use it anywhere but the sound below says it cannot be used as its time is milliseconds off the 6 second mark.

The sound plugin might be using < 6 instead of <= 6 to check the result? Pretty annoying bug anyways.

this was a obvious moronic decision, roblox did you hit your head with a rock?

If this topic has a consistent post rate per day then this topic should have around 40,000 posts in a month.

But being real, itā€™ll only get like 15k.

Itā€™s legitimately that old? :skull_and_crossbones:
No wonder people think Roblox has incompetent management (no offense to anyone intended).

Iā€™m guessing the entire privating thingā€™s purpose is just so you donā€™t create alt accounts to upload more sounds. But like ruining the entire audio section of your platform shouldnā€™t be done just for that.
