[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

How did you get 20 for 5 days?? I have never seen that before.

Replace ā€œsomeā€ with ā€œmostā€, 80% if not even more of old and new games which their devs no longer update, will be silent. ** Cricket Noises **

Roblox moderation randomly bans you for assets that are completely fine. If we have to upload it on our main accounts, we pretty much canā€™t develop games anymore because guess what? We are banned for nothing.

Does this update have something to do with the Roblox Stock prices going down?

But yeah, agreed. Roblox bans us for nothing now. People are getting banned for assets that are 0% inappropriate from any sort of side.

Yep. They made the audios free, and now many devs are quitting and itā€™s going down.

I just replied above you why it isnā€™t

An update like this would not deter investors.

I just want to make it clear that most of the developers who ā€œquitā€ will hardly affect Roblox, nor itā€™s stock. The stock is actually low because Roblox is simply being less active as the pandemic passes and people spend more time elsewhere. Furthermore, a lawsuit against Roblox on audio copyright is probably responsible for causing a drop in stock prices.

If you quit, you most likely have no or little effect on this platform. Roblox profits off of the top games, which in turn profit off of Roblox, and there is little chance they will leave.

TL;DR: This update does not affect stocks.

Setting all audio longer than 6 seconds to private will break almost all existing games AND free models.
This is the worst thing that can be done. Instead of automaticly setting audio to private, they should add option to set it to private and only newly uploaded audio will be set private.

But they made audio uploading freeā€¦ but at what cost. Almost everyone uses player created audio.
Player created audio that is on sale is suppose to allow players to use it.

Personally i donā€™t really want to use roblox stock audio

TLDR Privating all exesting audio that is longer than 6 secons is the worst idea. It will ruin free models and most of created games

Assuming a game with 150 audios needs to have them replaced, and each audio takes 3 minutes to find a replacement, thatā€™s around 8 HOURS spent changing audios. Unacceptable.

As far as I am aware, it has to do with Roblox being sued for A LOT of money due to copyrighted audio. Hence why you canā€™t make it public and only private, although with proper checks, this problem could be somewhat combatted.

I KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS UPDATE!!

I know the fix needed for this update!

  1. Make the update come out on April 1st
  2. Wait until April 1st
  3. Say itā€™s an April fools joke
  4. Delete the update and never mention it again

I just thought of a way to slightly help any developers that can only upload a small amount of audios a month, with way too many audios you need to upload.
You can thread a bunch of audios together (without exceeding 7 minutes) and have a second of silence or so in-between them.
Then you can have a script that starts the audio at a certain time, and when that part of the audio is finished, either stop or move the audio time back to the beginning of the audio.

Wow. This has certainly become a hot topic. If even Brookhaven joins in a developer strike, Roblox will suffer badly.

That still would take a lot of time anyways, and in some cases you donā€™t want to merge audios into a single audio. For music, that is probably fine; but sound effects probably not.

Iā€™ve never thought of doing that. Thatā€™s a really smart way of using audio. The only next step I would say is speed up the audio, so you can fit more. Iā€™m gonna try this

Thank you for this wonderful tip! It can certainly help everyone here who has the limit of 10 audio assets/month or even more.

I hope these audio limits are not low gotta feel for the actual artists who create art on a large scale for games etc.

This is basically getting rid of years and years of audio made by people. Yes, audio uploading will be free but not without its costs. There are whole Roblox communities that will be destroyed by this update. Take for example the Ro-DJ community. They rely on others for audio and with audios going private. As a result in this it will break scripts in games that might not be updated anymore. Also having the ability to only upload 10 audio a month is not the way to go. I could go on and on for a while but in the long run this is not a good in my opinion.
