[Action Needed] Upcoming Changes to Asset Privacy for Audio

i know they deleted the audio but it was funny (but i deleted the post due to not wanting to be banned incase they undo this awful update)

Couldnā€™t have said it better myself.

I mean, it needed to happen, ROBLOX doesnā€™t want to get sued for others uploading songs in their place.

The problem is they donā€™t allow sounds even if licensed. They just claim to.

Or, and this is quite a crazy proposition, they make it unlimited? Like wow, such a revolutionary prospect.

Honestly, we should go back to the old catalog with unlimited free uploads and they should just improve their moderation for christā€™s sake.

Originally when i first read this post i thought it was a good update since audios are free now but its not.

The whole ā€œAll audios will go private on march 22ndā€ thing is insane who had the bright idea that hey! we should make all audios private! Oh but of course we gotta let audios FINALLY be free after like 8 years.

People that dont know how to make music or sound effects will be in a predicament of having 2 choices.

  1. spend the next year or 2 of your life to learn how to make sound effects and audios

  2. use the audios roblox provided because EVERYONE USES THOSE RIGHT?? and they TOTALLY have sound effects in them

This will ruin games that dont get updated anymore. Developers will seriously get demotivated cause now they have to spend the next hour to a couple days of work fixing the audio problems depending on how many audios they have in the game.

AND THE FACT that they are planning to do this to other assets like meshes, animations etc.

Ive never liked roblox audios because they dont sound good they spam the marketplace when i try to look up something that slightly relates to the name.

Oh and dont get me started on the monthly system garbage.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk

Youā€™re asking for Steam Workshop, that would be too good.

AND even group owned sounds if they are not from the owner of the group do not even workā€¦GREAT

Iā€™m still waiting for the highlight effect roblox promised around about half a month/a month ago, still no news.

Sure is gonna be helpful when you (in this case me) have a system thatā€™s literally BASED around audioā€¦

Thanks for the ā€œspecific fingerā€, very much appreciated. :'D

While on one side this is for copyright reasons, this has more cons than pros, and if not no pros at all.

Limits can easily be exploited via alts, all sounds going private is REALLY DUMB as sounds are set public for one reason, being used by other developers, literally ALL GAMES are gonna be affected by this, not talking about old games or like, a front page game, but ANYTHING THAT HAD SOUND INVOLVED is just gonna feel like watching a movie on mute while you interact with it.

Literally dont private any of the existing audios and this update is fine. This is literally just bad.

And what if you wanted to make a game where characters spoke? where sounds are realistic.
10 sounds?! 10?! There might be an argument of ā€œthereā€™s plenty of other sounds!ā€ except all sounds will be private and wont be able to be taken out of private until

No, a perfect example of them making crap updates.

HAHAHHAHAHA. Wow. Iā€™m extremely stunned.

I just woke up a few hours ago., and I come to the DevForum to see people are still debating over this. Thereā€™s already 1.8k replies on this topic in under 48 hours.

I canā€™t blame you guys for still protesting nor can I blame DevRel for putting a cooldown between replies.

I have a full list of audios that I use with my boomboxes in my notepad, and most of the people who own those audios havenā€™t logged in in a long time.

People who have stopped being active, or who have died, may no longer be able to update their games to comply w/the new policyā€¦ Also, what about the legacy games??

Sorry, Iā€™m just confused because I only get 10 a month, and I donā€™t have any ID

My opinion of this is pretty much the same as mostly everyone else so Iā€™ma just say it:
Donā€™t.
Please donā€™t.
Pretty much the vast majority of this thread disagree with this change, nobody likes to tediously reupload and update their game to use the reuploaded audio just because of this update

I think itā€™s a brilliant step in the right direction that audio uploads are going to be free from now on; this is very developer-friendly. However, I canā€™t say that Iā€™m a fan of making all audio less than 6 seconds in length private? I anticipate a lot of games going ā€œsilentā€ following this if the creators are inactive - albeit not absolutely game-breaking though in most instances.

RIP to all the developers who have to sift through huge amounts of audios in their game(s) and find/upload appropriate replacements.

For those Unaware of what is going on, the ROBLOX developer community (and partially the normal Community) is going insane from one update, hereā€™s why.

Now In General, this updated is fine and is pretty good, they are making a privacy system for audios, which, good for them.

But then you get to a certain part of this post.

Thatā€™s the straw that broke the Camelā€™s back for the ROBLOX community. While you may say ā€œwell, reupload them then.ā€ There is a thing that just slows this process down by a lot depending on multiple factors:
You have a Verified ID
Your game isnt owned by a group.
What annoys the community is that you have to rely on giving your ID to a company, not only that, but if you donā€™t, youā€™re stuck with TEN uploads per month, granted, they are free, but thereā€™s no way to upload more audios after youā€™ve reached your limit besides waiting a month for your uses.
