I’m writing this request on behalf of a parent I know. Currently the only parental options relating to in-experience chat are “Everyone” and “None”, meaning you can either enable all in-experience chat, or disable it entirely.
This parent is requesting the option to only allow in-experience chat messages from the user’s Friends.
I think this makes a lot of sense, and aligns with the existing options for chat on the Roblox app (which supports Friends-only). In-Experience Chat is an integral part of the Roblox experience and being able to freely and safely chat with friends in experiences is of great benefit. However many parents don’t feel comfortable opening up their child to full public chat, even with the heavy filtering options. In this case, the parent is choosing to use an external chat program for the child and their friends so it can be monitored and exclusive - I think this is worse for everyone, taking users out of the experience.
Examples of the options available for messaging and in-app chat.
Functionally, all the pieces are there to add this option and lots of parents would benefit from it. Many parents already use curated Friends lists to allow their children to play with only friends. This would extend that curation to in-experience chat without fully disabling it.
