Adjust platform rules to allow an open and equal marketplace for all developers

As a Roblox developer, it is currently not possible to sell sounds, models, meshes and other assets to other developers on the platform.

The Roblox platform should be an open market with equal chances and opportunities to all developers. Roblox recently announced an exclusive partnership with Tommy Tallarico which consists of asset packs sold through a third party website managed by developer Tommy Tallarico. Under the current Terms of Service and the developer forum rules, any developer copying this structure and marketing it through the platform (through either the website or the developer forum) will receive moderation action or have their account terminated.

By entering this partnership and advertising it to developers, Roblox has;

  • Identified the need for developers to sell all types of assets, be it sounds, meshes or models.
  • Decided that the solution to satisfy this need cannot wait until the wider release of the developer marketplace, and must be implemented in a way not currently possible to all developers due to the Terms of Service and Community rules.
  • Demonstrated that selling assets through a third-party marketplace hosted by developers is a viable alternative to selling assets through the Roblox catalog/library.
  • Allowed a developer to set up their own payment portal, receiving 100% of payment instead of the ~25% given to developers through the Developer Exchange.

As this product advertisement has been endorsed by Roblox, and has been advertised on the platform against the rules of the platform, they have demonstrated that the current rules regarding selling and avertising content on third-party (off-site) platforms do not apply to all developers on the platform.

As such, the following section(s) of the Roblox Community Rules and the ToS can no longer be maintained and enforced in good faith, and should be altered/removed to provide an open market to all developers.

(Section II.1, Building your Game)
Do not sell, trade or give away Roblox currency, digital goods or game codes outside of the channels provided to the users on the Roblox site.

(Section I.13, Other Activities)
As discussed in Roblox Terms of Use, you cannot (and you cannot allow others) sell, trade or give away Robux, digital goods or game codes except through official channels on Roblox platform. For example, you cannot conduct such transactions through chat, Roblox Groups, or third-party apps or websites. You also cannot buy or sell Roblox games or Groups.

(Section I.13, Other Activities)
Offsite website links, services, and additional 3rd party content are not permitted on Roblox with the following exceptions: YouTube, Twitter, Twitch.

Additionally, as the ā€˜Asset Marketplaceā€™ forum section has been removed, posts that advertise developer assets are considered off-topic and will be removed/hidden accordingly. This category should be restored or selling assets should become an allowed activity in an existing category.

Of course, they are above the rules which means they can do whatever they want. I believe this is the settlement of the issue regarding the use of the ā€œOofā€ sound.

If I were you, Iā€™d make a separate topic in Forum Feedback about that so itā€™d easily get attention by forum staff.
