Advanced impact frames

Hello guys, I need some help in understanding and creating the impact frames effects. I can’t find a good tutorial on how to do them and every people that know how to do them, don’t respond to me. I think this effect is very important because it gives weigh to everything so I HAVE and WANT to learn how to replicate this effects:

  1. What do i want to achieve?
    I want to create the impact frames effect like in the videos I put down. With the characters and effects going black and white(not only characters)

  2. What is the issue?
    I can’t find a tutorial on how to do them so I’m asking if anyone can help me

  3. What solutions have you tried so far?
    I found people saying to use color correction and highlights but this only works for the character and not the effects.

If you slow down the video you can see and guess what they’re using:

First video and Second Video both use speedline particles, then they move on to black color correction, add a white highlight to the player and then even more particles.

I’ll try to recreate it to show you what I mean.

As u can see from the video, when I enable the color correction the effects stop showing off. The only thing u can see is the highlight on the char. I tried to make the highlight occluded too so if the particles are in front of the highlight then we should see the effect but it didn’t work.

I saw a guy on Twitter that I think he managed to create a negative effect but I don’t know how to do it. Another dude said he used viewport frames but that seemed it may cause much lag.

These videos I showed up seems to use color correction but I can find out how they managed to show the effects on top of the highlight

Update: The videos have sadly been taken down, but I’ll give an explanation of the different techniques I found:
Disclaimer: All results here are pushed to their limits, don’t expect your results to be the same quality.

A. Basic Method:

The starter impact frames and the base you will need to continue on the rest of this post.

B. Durrandell Impact Frames:

To increase the saturation (1), use the color correction property, then change the lighting interchangeably to black or white color whenever needed (of course, you can divert from the traditional colors if you want). Yes, particles can be used with this method; however, using the highlight property, you can change the color of physical objects as needed.

C. Hand-Drawn Method

It’s self-explanatory, but I’ll include a helpful tutorial anyway. Just pay attention. You can use any animation or layering program, such as Photopea, for this.

D. Editing Method

This technique involves taking a frame, and editing it with software to create a passable impact frame from the original frame. Again, you are free to use any other software, but for this method, I will be using Photopea, a free online version that aims to replicate Photoshop.

I really recommend you plan the number of frames you want to use for the whole impact frame, this will REALLY help in the long run, for this tutorial. I’ll only do a 2 frames

Step 1: Get your frame(s)
These are the ones I will be using:

Step 2: Make a copy of your frames
The reason for this is because the next step has different effects than the next step we’re about to get into (btw right click)

Step 3: Desaturation
As with any impact frame, we must de-saturate the image since it will affect the appearance of the impact frame (the approach we will be using already desaturates the image even if it were colored but it will look a little bit different, best to see which version works for you).

Step 4: Filters :wink:
This is where a good portion of you might have to switch over to Photopea or any other Photoshop similar but really you can use any medium to make an impact frame, just gotta find your own way

Once you’ve chosen a frame, go to “Filter Gallery” by clicking on the “Filter” tab at the top.

Now I’m sure with some of these effects, one of you smart little robloxians will probably figure out a way to make an impact frame with it

But the filters I’m really focused on, are the ones in the “Sketch” section:

Step 4: Select the Torn Edges Filter (example)
Once selected, you can use my settings as a starter and experiment

The rest is up to you, honestly, this is all about experimentation, experiment with how you would like the frame to look every time and attempt to make it seamless.

Here are some examples:

Inverting a frame (like the color) should solve a lot of the problems you may run into; please experiment as much as you want; the choice is entirely yours.

E. Color Corrected Method

Using two different versions of color correction, pure color correction is used to create an impact frame without completely solidifying the background.
