Aerodynamics [Studio Beta] April 2024 Update

Does this mean a possible waves-like (for oceans* or misc like tsunamis) would be possible in the future?

The more Roblox improves on physics and rthro, ect the more they remove to lean developers away from the classic style of games.

Oh man, I missed that bc I struggle to watch really long visual-heavy videos lol. That ornithopter is sick.

I was wondering because now I want to try making fully autonomous aerodynamics-based NPCs. A bird is just a small biological ornithopter after all.

I was curious why my R6 players we getting flung when they walk on wedges as of recently! Thanks aerodynamics.

The drones stopped working after this update, please fix it, as we cannot continue further testing

It was much better, now physics has become completely unrealistic, like in cartoons :sob:

Hello! Sorry to hear you are having this issues with the new model. The new model will require some mechanism re-tuning. For example, the angle of attack on the rotor blades might be a bit too high for the stall behavior of the new model. It would also be helpful to know what density and rotation rate you are using.

Weā€™d be happy to look into the problem if you can DM us a reproducer. Weā€™d like to make sure models like this work and make sure we have not missed anything with our internal testing on similar looking rotors (that worked).

Is there a way to call or request the exact position of the COP in reference to the COM value wise of the Assembly? Very useful for automatic trim systems

What a great idea! Iā€™m sorry but unfortunately we donā€™t have an API for that yet, but we will think about how to make that information accessible. It would certainly be useful.

Indeed would, even a vector 3 position read only value like Assembly center of mass will be fantastic.

Will we ever get sound occlusion? I do feel SoundService could use a few updates, but this isnā€™t the topic for discussing that.

I am a flight simulator dev, and I feel like this would definitely be the best option once they continue to add more options to tweak and customize. This will for sure save a lot of time and is a pretty neat feature from roblox.

Iā€™m sure this has been already said but I would greatly appreciate extra modularity and more intricate fine-tuning. This includes being able to toggle on/off the lift and drag forces separately, customize the air density gradient, etc. :slight_smile:

After testing with the F-15 and trying to make my own plane based on my existing system, Iā€™ve arrived at a roadblock. Is it true Motor6Ds cannot be used for flight control surfaces? They seem to have zero control authority in my case, either that, or itā€™s my planeā€™s unusual airframe that roblox canā€™t comprehend.

Hello, thanks for your question. The aerodynamics system is designed to work with our constraints. It is not compatible with Motor6Ds. You can try using hinge constraints as in the F15 example.

As of now we donā€™t have plans to support Motor6Ds.
We are working on something to help mitigate this limitation - please stay tuned for further improvements / new features.
