AFK Feature

This is a really simple idea, which I think all games could benefit from.
When you type something like “afk” or “/afk”, it shows some text above your head, saying that you are afk. Also it will show some text next to your name in the leaderboard saying you are afk.

This doesn’t make sense to be a platform feature. This should be implemented by individual developers.

It also doesn’t have anything to do on roblox really, your in a game to play it, not to be AFK in it.

Nope. If anyone wants this they can just write a script or find it on free models.

While this may be good for some games, it may not be for others. It would be easier if the developer just implements it. I did for my game and it only took like 20 minutes.

In what game would it be bad?
And also, this feature will be useful so people don’t waste time talking to you, to the realize that you are afk, also it might seem like you are ignoring them, which might seem rude.

Then developers need a way to ensure a player isn’t automatically kicked by the client for being inactive.

We can kick them ourselves if they linger for hours.

It would be pretty stupid to think someone is being rude by ignoring you when they are standing completely still and not even playing the game.

This feature should be left up to developer-discretion and shouldn’t be a global feature.

OMG NO SOMEONE MIGHT GET OFFENDED ON THE INTERNET FOR NO GOOD REASON @ rude

It’s a complete and total non-issue. Adding graphical elements without consent of the developer (e.g. they manually add it) is a no-no. Now, I could get behind changing the leaderboard so that if you don’t touch your computer for a few minutes, it changes in some minor way to indicate such, but that’s still on the border of something devs should implement themselves.

If you’re idle for 20m, you get disconnected.
Most round-based games don’t have a spectator mode which could be used to afk.
Most other action games respawn you with a FF which only lasts a few seconds.
When everything is considered, a lot of games would need to change, while the creator may not like it.
Why force them to make their games compatible, instead of giving their the option to create their own afk system?
(Not mentioning your game can’t detect corescript chat commands, thus recognise being afk)

There are a lot of complains of features that roblox forced on us.
Why would you want them to force a new feature that we can create ourself?

Kicking players for being inactive is a very common practice in video games. You have limited server space and you have people who want to play. Solution? Remove people who are taking up space but not playing. Control over this time would be nice. I think 20 minutes is too lenient for my game.

If the default kick time is too long, just make your own KickAFK script?

An option for the developer to extend the AFK time would be great, though.

Ok, so I guess that this isn’t a feature everyone wants, and that if someone wants the feature they would have to implement it to work in their own game.
