Age Verification Prompt Shown Instead of Region Restriction Notice for Restricted (17+) Games in Türkiye/Korea/Saudi Arabia 🥀✌🏻

When attempting to join a game (e.g., Bathroom Hangout), my account is already age verified, but the system incorrectly prompts “Age Verification Required”.

The real reason I cannot access these 17+ Restricted games is due to local laws and regulations in my country (Türkiye), which prevent users from accessing Restricted (17+) content.

Instead of showing a message about regional restrictions, the system misleadingly asks for age verification, which may confuse users into thinking that the issue is with their age verification status.

Expected behavior

The system should recognize that the account is age verified and cannot access the game due to local laws, and display a clear message such as:

This experience is unavailable in your region due to local laws and regulations.

This would correctly inform users why they cannot join the game, instead of showing the misleading age verification prompt.

Where it happens:

Game: Any Restricted (17+) game
Account location: Türkiye (also affects Korea and Saudi Arabia)

When it happens:
First noticed: August 22, 2025, 13:00 UTC+3

System & Browser Info:

  • Browser: Opera GX 120.0.5543.204 (Chromium 135.0.7049.115)
  • Operating System: Windows 11 Pro
  • Processor: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX
  • Memory: 64 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090
  • Browser extensions: None enabled

Reproduction Steps:

  1. Go to the game page: Bathroom Hangout :skull_and_crossbones:
  2. Make sure your account location is Türkiye (or Korea/Saudi Arabia)
  3. Click the “Join” button
  4. Observe that the “Age Verification Required” prompt appears, even though the account is already age verified and the actual restriction is due to local laws.

Frequency: 100% reproducible

Visuals:

This is a bug because the system should differentiate between accounts that need age verification and accounts that cannot access the game due to regional restrictions. Showing the wrong prompt is misleading. Correct behavior would be showing a clear message about regional unavailability instead of prompting for age verification.

So it turns out this has nothing to do with the country I’m in, but applies to anyone who hasn’t set their Content Maturity to “Restricted,” based on my conclusion from this report:

The wording there should still be changed, though, because our account is ID-verified, but our Content Maturity is below Restricted, which is why we can’t access the game, and the pop-up there should have informed us of this. Additionally, I can’t upgrade to Restricted due to my location :wilted_flower:
