What’s happening: On March 18th, Age Requirements will be live on the DevForum, I for one, fully understand why this is being implemented and I am not entirely against it, however there are still plentiful of legitimate developers out there that do not want to fork over their personal information, that being their Face and or ID.
Proposal: I believe a third option such as billing information or making at least a 5 dollar purchase could act as a third option for age verification. Roblox is a company that specifically thrives on the backbones of developers, and restricting access will most likely yield the opposite results that they’re intending.
Miscellaneous: If anyone else has any other ideas for verification options, please shoot away!
Under my email, I have several accounts, one of which spanning back to 2015, my most widely used account from 2016 (now banned under false pretenses, but that is besides the point given that the 2015 account exists), and, logically, that would put me in at least the 13+ age group.
I fully support this! Roblox relegating only two options and nothing else seems rather lazy, and there definitely should be more than just two options and nothing else.
I don’t see my request being unreasonable as there are plentiful of sites that use payment information as legitimate verification, while also not requiring the face of said person. I’ve had my feature requests accepted before, I just hope this one will go through as this will negatively impact a lot of developers, and Roblox is arguably losing far more money by doing this as developers are literally their most profitable asset by far, they create the games. I think the overall revenue they earn from developers dwarves whatever supposed “data” they could be selling.
That wouldn’t be reliable as place visits aren’t too difficult to achieve nor is it immune to botting, there could be an argument made for those present before the 18th of March, but given how Roblox is usually “either you do it, or don’t!” I just don’t see that happening.
It can’t be the most efficient way to verify that youre over 13 but i think it is wayy better than showing your face to a company that does shady business (possibly). Personally the whole age verification thing is going way too far. Actually i dont think age verification has anything to do with safety or whatever. Like i do not think devforum ever had a safety problem (says the one whos been here for almost a year). I think they’re doing this weird update as some sort of “just incase” type of thing which is pretty useless.
Personally i think age verifications are pointless especially in devforum but honestly it does seem like the dark ages for their moderation. Sure they maybe couldve done these age verification updates to catch a break or something (i literally wish now that i think about it)
It’s really no use. Roblox will insist on this new age verification idea even in places where it has no place being, like studio and the devforum. Roblox seems to only care about news / press so player outrage will do nothing.
Or just use account age. In July 10, 2030, my account will be 13 years old, and thus, you know for a fact that I am AT LEAST 13, because I would be 13 even if I created an account at 0 years old (which is not the case, but is like a very extreme lower bound).
Alternatively, let us just make a $0.01 credit card purchase to prove we are old enough to be an account holder or something.
Not reliable enough, account stealing is already bad enough as is, this would add further “value” to older accounts. I appreciate the suggestion though.
I didn’t mean this in the literal sense that people would specifically use them to access the DevForum, and more or less that adding more “value” to these accounts could only further accentuate account stealing as it’s already big enough of an issue. I do agree that most people apart from a select few would go as far to do that just to access the DevForum.
