This isn’t Sword Art Online, you can’t remove our logout menu!
Tell users how to close a game in big letters on the loading screen and make some sort of hotkey to close the notification and another hotkey to close the game

I agree with this. An “Instructions” window should pop up upon entering a game with all of the necessary hotkeys (graphics quality, exit, change window) listed and a “Don’t show me this again” checkbox.

Let’s get rid of one UI by adding another! Let’s ruin intro GUIs by adding a tutorial page!
In Build mode there’s a tutorial page like that which pops up every time you join the game. I can guarantee 100% people will hate it. We don’t need the button – allow us to toggle it off, but keep Esc bound,.
Would you rather have a full, always accessable ui through your entire game or one that only pops up on the loading screen?
The menu button is a hell of a lot less intrusive than a tutorial GUI that you have to exit out of each time you join a game.
Tell you what – every time you want to develop, go into build mode. I’m not sure if ROBLOX still has the thing pop up because I have a plugin that nukes it and the build tools, but if it’s there, you’ll soon prefer the menu button too.
I’m fine with the esc menu. I just want to be able to disable the “Reset Character” button in it. Very annoying for games that would desire the player not resetting his/her’s character.
Name the character’s humanoid something besides “Humanoid”
Profit
For developers, you guys aren’t very smart/ know how to handle users
That “INSTRUCTIONS” idea is obnoxious and won’t help a lot of people. I know myself would just try to get that UI closed as soon as possible, and when it comes time to exit out of the game I would have forgotten/ don’t know how to leave. (Or I would accidentally leave by pressing the wrong hotkey, like “X = CLOSE UI P = LEAVE GAME” I might press P
Imagine it with a larger base of players, some of which who won’t/ can’t read, and have very low patience/ interest. This idea is dumb and Roblox’s home menu alternative is infinitely better/ provides a nicer more consistent feel.
That’s right - nobody reads title screens or instructions.
It’s a subjective thing
Maybe you’re more wired to read absolutely everything on the screen, but lots of other people collect data differently than you, and maybe not as rationally.
I tend to sweep through and view the 3D area first. Then I establish my position and my goal. If I can’t get enough information from this to tell me where I go, I quickly begin losing patience with the game. If the UI doesn’t offer direct help within 4 seconds of searching, I leave the game.
I know people who are even more impatient than that.
This is not “weird.” Everyone doesn’t completely survey the UI first and foremost; I for one usually ignore the UI as long as I can until I’m stuck in a ditch. And if I don’t need to use it, sometimes I won’t even realize certain features were there to begin with. (Minimaps, options, “perks” or additions to your character)
There’s also huge splits between people of what may be considered “usable UI”
^ Like that to me instantly hurts my head and gets me lost.
Yep, that’s my point exactly. A game must be playable out of the box, without resorting to reading tutorials, instructions, manuals, etc.
Esc menu / Roblox button are there to facilitate that ‘no-brainer’ paradigm: the user must be able to perform basic utility operations like changing the settings without having to figure out how to quit for each game individually.

Can we at least have a way to disable Mouse Lock and detect when the menu is open?

… and also to disable the reset because you don’t always want that guy to die right here. (Yes we can script it, but it wouldn’t make as much as mess as it does at the moment).
I think we should have a setting to remove the tiny button in the bottom left.
It then comes with a notification for 3 seconds saying that the button is gone and you can press escape to open the menu.
However… who reads those anyway? How annoying is that popup going to be? What if a user doesn’t read it in time and gets utterly confused?
OK, make it so you have to press a button to remove the notification.
However… >How annoying is that popup going to be?<
You really can’t win in this debate. The escape key really does seem like the most obvious thing ever, but I know that some users will click the button anyway, and it’s the only way they’ve ever used that button. I’d expect them to the minority, but unless that number was really rare (<0.5%), I don’t think it’s a viable option.
