As a Roblox developer, it is currently too hard to support voice chat in experiences that move the player’s camera away from their character. This is because the button to mute or unmute oneself sits above the character and becomes inaccessible when the camera looks away.
We have issues with this at metauni seminars. When attendees enter “orbcam” to watch a blackboard that a speaker is writing on, they lose the ability to unmute to ask a question or make a comment. A player should not have to exit orbcam to do this, nor should they have to use the microphone toggle in the escape menu.
If this issue is addressed, it would improve my development experience because I would be free to move the player’s camera as my experience necessitates without worrying about voice chat QOL. Furthermore, I believe that the ability to easily observe and toggle one’s microphone status is a fundamental right of voice chat that helps players preserve their privacy and be courteous to others.
