Analytics: View acquisition sources for curation, continue play, charts, and search ads

Hi Creators,

We’ve heard your feedback that you want more granularity on your acquisition sources.

So today, we’re updating our acquisition page to break down four key sources that were previously grouped under broader categories:

  • Continue Play sort on the Home Page, (previously under Home other)
  • Curation sorts on the Home Page, which include Today’s picks and Roblox Event sorts. This was previously grouped under Home other.
  • Charts page which was previously grouped under Search.
  • Search ads which was previously grouped under Sponsored Ads.

We’ve backfilled this data for the past 60 days to help you analyze trends. For a full list of acquisition sources, check out our documentation.

Let us know if you have any questions in the comments below!
Thank you.

This is a great update! The acquistion page was limited to a few sources, but now, we have mostly every way to join a game!

The only thing is, “Other” is pretty confusing.

What does this mean by including the traffic from external sources? What external sources do you mean? Because I can’t think of anything related to ‘external sources’?

And also, “Teleport” you can’t control that so how is that going to be helpful for acquistion?

I think “Other” includes people coming from links to your game, posted outside of Roblox.

So like, if I sent a link like this: Opaque Obby - Roblox That would count as other because it is not listed on there?

It would make sense, but I feel that should be it’s own thing.

Yes, I believe this would be counted as “Other”.

This is excellent! Just a week or two ago we noticed a big jump in “Search” impressions/plays and we thought it was super odd - now we can see that it was from one of the Charts!

This is also brilliant because now you can see exactly how many plays came from the Games (Charts) page. 12/10 update!!!

“Teleport” could be useful for Developers teleporting Players from another experience (Like an Experience Hub for their experiences, teleporting Players to the Experiences they’ve made), so some Developer might want to know how many Players they get from that metric / that source.

How is that going to help them improve their game?

For people who own and operate several games, testing newly launched games can be as simple as directing players from another one of their games to this new game, instead of running ads. For example, they can place a portal that also shows the icon of this (new) game, they can track how many people come across this portal (look at it), and how many people teleport into the game, and work out if the icon is effective or not.

Right now, “Other” mostly includes external sources from direct links. Good news, we are actively working on enabling creators to track more detailed acquisition metrics from external sources.

Wow, that’s really exciting to hear! It will be a great help in narrowing down which part of your social media campaign is doing the best for example. Looking forward to it!

Besides links, could you specify what other external sources?

We’re working on a feature where you can generate share links and then share them externally to different sources (eg…, X/Twitter, your community). Then you’ll be able to track clicks and more metrics for each link.

Are the new categories already available in the Acquisition page (as I do not see them yet for some reason)?

Thanks

External sources are things like twitter, google, etc. say someone tweets a link to your game and someone clicks it and plays it. Thats an external source

Yes, they should be available. Let us know if you still can’t see them.

Hi @quazotheduck! The granular categories are not visible for us.

Try doing a hard reload of the webpage. I checked and data is there for your experience.
