Any tips for UIs

You can write your topic however you want, but you need to answer these questions:

  1. What do you want to achieve?
I want to know better ways to make UIs as I am planning to start to become one or use it in-case of anything.

  2. What is the issue?
There’s not really an issue, and I couldn’t find anywhere to put this.

  3. What solutions have you tried so far?
I just want to clear up as when I try tutorials and other stuff I get confused partly though it and it ends up being a failure.

When I try to make one they usually come out to look like a blocky and stale-looking UI.

Heres an example:

If there are any tips that you have for me, please reply if you can. Thanks!

Before I begin, note that I am in no way an expert with UI and am mainly speaking off of experience with working with UI Designers.

One thing that can help is possibly adding more color. However, the main thing that might help it look less stale and blocky would be to make your UI assets in a photo-editing software such at Paint . net or Photoshop and exporting it to ROBLOX in the form of image buttons or image labels.

That’s mainly all I have to tell you, hope this helps.

All I would say is use software and import the files directly into Roblox, as @RudraVII said. I would recommend Affinity Designer as a great beginner software, it’s easy to use and very complex at the same time.
This is how I started, I watched a five-minute video on tools and designed away! Sadly, it is $50 for a one-time payment, but there is a great deal right now for $34.99!. They have deals often, they’ll probably have a Christmas one. If you ever buy Affinity Designer, and have any questions, I’m the guy to ask. Hopefully, this helped!

Hey, I recommend starting out with Adobe XD. It’s a user-friendly programme and can produce quality work. It is also free! That’s how I started out. I know this may sound repetitive but just practice doing UIs and you’ll get better. Look at references too.

If u want it to look more cartoony or fun, but dont have a software to make custom images on, I recommend Roundify Plugin. [ Content Deleted ] - Roblox

It’s a free plugin and really helps me when I don’t want to make my own images on a software and just want to do it in Roblox Studio. It creates an image label after using it which u can easily change the color.
Example: (I didn’t add a lot of color in this one)

I don’t know if there are tutorials for roundify somewhere, but its fun to experiment with.

If you are scripting the UI design I would recommend Roblox Studio if your not scripting the UI design then I would use photopea it’s like Photoshop but it’s online and FREE, it will allow you to also make you UIs rounded and not blocky.

Always have a thought in you head that your never going to get it overnight it takes time years, months, weeks, always remember that.

I hope this help you :slightly_smiling_face: :+1:

I am not a UI specialist, but I know how to market a game. Add plenty of color. Unless the overall theme of the game prohibits this, use lots of color! Don’t go overboard. Add images as well. I feel that the combination of proper coloring and imagery help draw the eye of the player. When the eye is drawn, so is the mouse I suppose. Works with gamepass marketing. Most UI’s I’ve seen are round, do that as well! You can use the roundify plugin or a external program. Other than that, you’re on the right track. Good work, and good luck! Keep practicing and stay determined.

If you have any spare 100 robux laying around I recommend buying the new and improved Roundify plugin. It has much more features that would make working with UI’s much faster and reasonable. Check it out here. The developer of the plugin made a developer forum post too that you can check out here. Hope this helped! :slightly_smiling_face: :+1:

You can create your own UI designs in another program like Photoshop. Personally, it is a lot easier and gives you more of a variety of options for what you want. But, it all comes down to you what you prefer.

The theme of the game matches with the UI. For example, if your game involves more positive stuff, the colours should be bright. If your game is about something dark, scary, etc. Maybe you should use more darker colours. If the game is a futuristic game, you could include futuristic colours like blue and make your GUIs with photo editing softwares.

You can also curve your GUIs. However, do experiment with the shape of your GUI and buttons as it might not always fit your theme of the game.

There are loads of softwares available to aid you with developing amazing UIs. As everyone else said here, Affinity Designer is a great software. However, if you are not willing to spend anything, you could try Adobe XD. However, it’s up to you to decide which software is good.

There are also some amazing plugins on Roblox. Here are a few I would recommend:

  • AutoScale - Allows you to convert the GUI position and size so that the UI will be compatible with all devices.
  • Roundify - There might be some other plugins which are good but this allows you to curve your UIs.
  • RoStrap - Great plugin to allow you to do many stuff like adding a ripple effect when you click the button.

RoStrap isn’t really designed for UI stuff, do you mean RoStrapUI?

You can make beautiful UI by messing around.

For example, try using white and dark colors. White stands for minimal, clean and dark stands for ultra-hot UI.

Just look at this:

Do you notice something in the white UI?

Shadow are in the UI

You might ask, what did I use to make this UI?
I used no software apart from Roblox Studio. The shadow was an image in Roblox’s content folder and the rounded corners come from the plugin Roundify which is quite helpful.

Not UI made from other softwares are the best. Sometimes they can be worse than UI in studio. If you are planning to make modern and stylish UI, I recommend you to stay away from using photoshop etc.
