Okay so, the two main debaters here is
Mr. @commitblue who supports the implementation of such feature on the forum, VS
Mr @ValiantWind who does not support such feature.

Now, CommitBlue mainly defends his point of that this feature will not bring much burden to roblox, and Val supports the fact that it would be too difficult to moderate.

We can have a public anonymous vote, to see which side the community agrees with.

• CommitBlue is right! Banners are important, for example we can put a gallery of our creations on it.
• Val is right! Banners are barely useful, just a distraction to both devs and staffs.

Yeah, Wanna know an unfair fact? If a regular posts a useless resource, everyone will be kneeling down to the regular on how useful it is, if a member posts a useless resource, they would get, tomatoed on.

That is absolutely not true. Regular rank on DevForum isn’t a very powerful element to one’s social status and superiority, it is still mainly because of their career successes, media influence and professionalism.

I like the idea of banners, but I also think there is more to do be done first before enabling it, even if it’s a simple toggle. It has implications, you need to consider that first.

There are times in the 5 years here where I’ve needed to do a flag of someone’s profile, so I had to manually message the moderation inbox and hope it gets resolved, it doesn’t use the same automation workflow as flags. I’d like to get that resolved to further handle this kind of problem first, before looking at banners.

Feature requests are about problems and cases, this is the status quo. The solution doesn’t matter, Roblox uses problems and use cases to identify priority.

So the wider problem is that there is limited ability to customise our profiles, so we can start by giving use cases for why we want to expand customisation for our profile.

Does it actually make sense given a lack of control over our profile photo given it’s just our Roblox avatar? Does the extra moderation work make sense? Does DevForum moderation respond fast enough already to make that work?

It is not that a new feature like this would “boom Roblox”, it’s that I don’t think it’s fair to suggest something and the answer be “It’s cool” and nothing else while providing extra work required to moderate.

Sure, but that requires resources and all I’m saying is that the idea is cool but I think more important things need to come first before enabling it. That doesn’t mean the idea is bad, it just means there’s more to do be done first.

Bypassed content exists, moderation workflows needs to come first to deal with it from the forums side. Plus all the development resources required.

But, what if banners are… Innanpropriate?
We can simply only force the user which wants a banner to use images only uploaded to roblox.

what if the image was bypassed?
add an report button for the banner.

Please don’t be asinine with this. We are talking directly, don’t put my reply as a comment from all regulars out there, it’s just from me.

If you want to be hostile, that’s fine but that’s where I’ll end my contribution to this. I like having a good discussion of the problem, hostile behaviour isn’t how you get what you want.

I think you’re taking my mild support and turning it into a reply that seems to want to continue this wrong notion that “regulars are against you” and that any reply which is not entirely agreeing is wrong, it’s not helping you here. You need to reconsider your approach.

I stand by the view it is a good idea but requires work first. I am merely expressing my views about the entire thread so far to that reply which may include content from you but expand to express use-cases where I think helps, expressing my views on the matter.

This idea has dependencies and those dependences take resources, the problem is more than what people make out here, often from a lack of actual real world interaction with a company that is the size of Roblox. These things aren’t trivial to solve even if it’s a toggle.

Adding stuff to the moderation workflow here requires documentation, integration with the current workflow, automated actions, actual development time to make it happen, QA to make sure it all works.

Then it’s important you have a convo with the moderations to understand exactly why it went as it does, I’ve had plenty of chats with moderation over my flags and that has led to me understanding that some of my flags were wrong and they explained greatly why, some led to a further discussion that made things better.

Try and stop being so hostile whenever it’s not entirely agree, it’ll make you look so much more reasonable.

In my experience people don’t really look at user profiles too much on here. It would probably not be worth implementing.

It would probably be more coherent if Roblox made Talent Hub the place to list your profile/banners/portfolio and just have it go there whenever someone clicks into your DevForum user. (e.g. have one integrated creator profile with more customization, instead of all these separate creator profiles that all have slightly different features)

I support the fact that its a pointless to add since it just makes your profile look better.

What I’m trying to tell people is that its not as easy as turning on a switch to implement the system in place. It takes much more than that.

• We need banners, but limited to Roblox IDs

Roblox just has it disabled in the site settings.

Sure, it may need some extra moderation, but besides that it’s just a flip of a switch and maybe a site rebuild at the most.

Highly doubt we’ll see profile banners and user cards any time soon.

It’s not as simple as “flip the switch”. This forum is extraordinarily public, which means that the same rules that apply to the main site generally have to apply here too. The audience is (ideally) a little bit older, so some rules are a bit less prevalent, but the rules around images are absolutely still applicable.

This means that Roblox would have to build out an entire system to bring DevForum profile banner images and user card images into their existing image moderation queue to be approved/denied… which is an unnecessary and strenuous addition to the existing workload.

It’s just not worth the amount of work no matter how much you want to simplify it. The forum just isn’t mature enough to handle these kinds of features without moderation.
