will you add support for album icons? so Distrokid’s music will have an album icon for their songs both on toolbox and music.roblox.com.
yes, that work is targeted to release early next year, stay tuned !!
Disagree on that one, roblox would have to compete with established competitors such as, well, any streaming service with music, not to mention putting recourses to develop such music platform features only takes those resources from improving the primary product, game development… It seems people like you are forgetting what pays roblox, sure hell isn’t music, it’s the game developers, epic games, steam, and other game distribution platforms didn’t branch of to make a music platform, but that’s because, partially similar to roblox it’s a video game distribution platform, why did YouTube music happen, because YouTube, has the technology in place, because it’s a media sharing platform.
They can have a dedicated team focusing on the music aspect of Roblox? If they already have one? So essentially in that way, resources are allocated then taken…
Yeah of course, I haven’t forgotten what pays Roblox, but then again, it seems like you are belittling music when it’s the fundamental core of engagement on Roblox…
The idea of Roblox having its own streaming service platform doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to compete with other services when it can be utilised by the existing player base Roblox has. Also, I’m not directly promoting the idea of Roblox putting out its own streaming service, just saying it would still go well and they do/can have the technology in place for it. There’s obviously going to be pros/cons.
The main issue here is, you are downgrading the team’s efforts to make music more discoverable and calling it a “Spotify clone” which is disrespectful. It’s currently in beta, give proper constructive feedback.
That isnt true actually.
Spotify has free music. While iTunes requires you to buy it
Spotify does not have ringtones you can use. While iTunes does have ringtones
Spotify is just one app. While iTunes is becoming 2 apps somehow
Spotify doesnt have TV shows and movies. While iTunes does*
And lastly. Spotify isnt technically discontinued. While iTunes is partially discontinued.
the thing is. how can it be a spotify clone?
your game uses music from your own library. not music by like distrokid apm clippsly which in the first place wont be included probably as most music from them arent online monstercat or (maybe) mayk it. i dont think it might affect you. (iirc addition because i forgot to put it in somewhere)
this is probably like the only time roblox mentioned clippsly
for the asterisk. the tv shows and movies are moved to apple tv now
I mean, don’t ask me, ask the individual who mentioned it.
It uses music from our own library because we can’t use licensed music. We have a “sound by ID” feature that has to explicitly block licensed music.
why not? your fans has been asking for ID music for a long time.
Please reread my original post.
The Terms of Service only allow you to use 150 licensed songs across the entire place, period. All songs in this “top music” feature are licensed. Thus, there’s no chance a “breakout artist” will be found through discovery of players because no in experience creation experience is allowed to put arbitrary music into the place.
I won’t be replying again because my post was intended for the team working on this feature.
Haha, well, I was planning out a project hugely revolving around music and I wasn’t aware of this rule so thank you for the heads up.
(Btw it’s not 150, it’s 250)
Glad to see more updates with music
then distrokidofficial on public audio? i’m really feel good when it will release?
Is this limit per server? Or all servers combined? How do you block licensed song IDs? Or do you have to not allow players to use IDs?
Is there any code you can use to check if its licensed or not?
using getproductinfo i got the following, does this mean its not licensed or is that not specified in the info?
{
[“AssetId”] = 121889895815097,
[“AssetTypeId”] = 3,
[“ContentRatingTypeId”] = 0,
[“Created”] = “2024-12-04T10:14:51.567Z”,
[“Creator”] = ▼ {

},

[“IsForSale”] = false,
[“IsLimited”] = false,

[“IsNew”] = false,

You can just check CreatorTargetID as it represents the ID of the user or group, you go over Roblox users like Monstercat or Clippsly to see if their UserID matches the CreatorTargetID. I would just store all the ID’s from users whom has licensed music with Roblox in an array, I guess?
But yes, the rule applies to all servers combined.
This is great!
Although I do have a couple bits that really bother me:
- Why is the search filtered? There’s an artist, who I know 100% has music on Roblox (through Monstercat) but you cannot search for them. The artist is called “Koven”
- The search is not great, and often returns results completely unrelated to your search query.
I know most of these tracks go through a automated review (with mix of some human review), however there should be more checks in place.
An example that I can provide is this audio or this audio, distributed through DistroKid which contains hate speech language towards people of black ethnicity. I’ve reported this asset, however it doesn’t mean such assets won’t appear in the future.
I understand that it is not possible to make a exact 100% no failure automation which could check such tracks, however even if it’s not possible it’s something that can be worked on more in the future. Human moderation for such huge volume of tracks is not possible, which is completely understandable, and all efforts in keeping such assets (even with automation) are good, however it should be trained way more.
May creator(s) on YouTube use the music that Roblox provides? If we got copyright strike on YouTube, what should we do? The music creator “might” upload music on YouTube after moderation and start copyright people, and creators afraid of that
can u add new or missing tracks from apm music? i could ask u to get conversation with roblox for apm musics.
