[Beta] Introducing the Music Top 100 Chart on Roblox

Hey Creators,

As part of our commitment to enhancing the music experience and discovery on Roblox, we’re thrilled to announce the beta launch of the “Music Top 100”, a new chart to discover and engage with the most listened-to and adopted music on our platform.

You can view the chart through the new website and linked under the “Trending Music Experiences” genre chart. You can listen to the top 100 trending music tracks on Roblox, giving you an idea of what music tracks are gaining popularity on Roblox.

How It Works

The chart will feature licensed tracks available on the platform that have an international standard code (ISRC) attached to them. It will include tracks from our distributors and artists including DistroKid, Monstercat, APM, Clippsly, BSlick and more. It is refreshed weekly and built on an algorithm that factors:

  • Playtime: How long users engage with the music in an experience

  • Adoption: The number of experiences using the music

Our goal is to help anyone, especially creators, understand trends on Roblox and potentially find a breakout artist. Over the next few weeks, we will run experiments, optimizing how we rank our charts to ensure a fair and accurate representation of the most engaging and widely adopted music.

Looking Ahead

In early 2025, we will improve the Music Top 100 Chart to allow users to discover which experiences are using the track, and see other tracks by the same artist. Additionally, we’ll show a list of the top music tracks on each experience’s details page, highlighting the most played track in an experience.

We’re excited to continue providing users with a seamless way to explore both trending music and music experiences. We’ll consider other chart variations based on feedback and the trends we see.

This will provide both creators and artists with new opportunities to showcase their work, foster engagement, and gain valuable insights. Creators can discover how trending tracks are used to enhance experiences. At the same time, artists can see how their music is integrated across the platform, connect with new audiences, and reach users through detailed music pages and in-app charts.

DistroKid Partnership

Lastly, our DistroKid launch is now rolled out for all eligible artists to participate. Since Sept 2024, we’ve already added 180,000 DistroKid tracks to the Creator Store across multiple genres — including electronic, pop, dance, rock, country, rap/hip hop, and more — and they are available for all creators to adopt into experiences. We expect the catalog to grow as more artists participate every day, and you can upload your music to Roblox’s Creator Store through DistroKid as well. This integration ensures proper rights management and opens up distribution across Roblox and other platforms. Tracks from Distrokid and participating partners are eligible for charts (see FAQ).

We’re excited to see how Music Top 100 will inspire your creations and enhance music and experience discovery for all users on Roblox. Let’s build the future of immersive music together.

Happy creating,
The Roblox Music Team

FAQs

How does the trending algorithm work for music?

  • The algorithm combines playtime and adoption (e.g., the number of experiences that play a specific track), to determine what’s trending. In 2025, we plan to run experiments to continue to improve our trending algorithm.

What’s the difference between Trending Music Experiences and Music Top 100?

  • Trending Music Experiences are a genre chart that highlights the top Roblox experiences featuring music. Users can discover engaging experiences where music is the dominant theme. For creators, this provides a way to showcase your experiences, attract new users, and gain visibility by leveraging popular tracks.

Music Top 100 is a chart showcasing the most popular tracks on Roblox, empowering artists by giving their music greater visibility and discovery opportunities. You can explore trending music that enhances your experience. It offers valuable insights into user interests, sparks ideas for new content, and helps you stay ahead of emerging music trends, while providing artists with a platform to reach new audiences and grow their fan base.

Where can I find the Music Top 100 chart?

  • You can access the beta for Music Top 100 from “Trending Music Experiences” sort on Charts within the Roblox app and on the Music Top 100 website.

How do I get my music to qualify for the Music Top 100?

  • Audio files that have a verified ISRC attached to them qualify for the Music Top 100. ISRC is an international standard code for uniquely identifying sound recordings and music video recordings. Roblox, as of today, does not have a scaled way of allowing creators to add verified ISRCs to their music uploads. We are doing further research in this area, but meanwhile, uploading your music through DistroKid ensures that Roblox receives all of the appropriate metadata, including ISRCs.

Who can participate in our DistroKid distribution partnership?

  • To participate, you must:

    • Have 100% ownership of your music.
    • Meet moderation requirements, including passing copyright and content standard checks.
    • Be unaffiliated with a Performing Rights Organization (PRO) or other society.

Once approved, your music will be discoverable in the Creator Store, allowing creators to enhance their experiences with fresh tracks and drive user engagement. You can also distribute existing releases to Roblox through DistroKid by selecting “Add to more stores” on their album or single page and choosing Roblox.

Glad to see that The Gruncle’s StepBrocore Tavern of Unholy Matrimony is finally getting the recognition they deserve

I think this was mentioned in RDC at some point,
and honestly I initially thought it meant the addition of music we are all familiar with.

But it seems that it’s original material just shared to Roblox for usage?
Anyways I checked it out and there’s some solid music on there

But I noticed that I wasn’t automatically signed in, not really an issue though.
My only concern is I hope as time goes by, the songs itself don’t get botted listeners in an attempt to rig certain music to top the charts.

Despite that, I think it’s a lovely update for the future.

How will this work for experiences that allow users to set their own music, such as Obby Creator?

Some experiences will preload but never use certain music tracks as well, such as Flood Esacpe 2 preloading the old 2018 music tracks for certain obbies but never playing them due to newer tracks coming out. (Dark Sci-Forest is one such example.)

The idea that “Five Little Ducks”, a nursey rhyme, is top three this week is bewildering and confusing.
It would be neat to see how often these are played or notable experiences these tracks are appearing in.

I know for sure you don’t check all of them, so please have a look over what you are putting onto the roblox audio toolbox

Found some stuff that contained bypassed combinations (letters and numbers) for names

But overall this is a nice update

Please let us filter by instrumental! Lyrics don’t work very well in most games.

Are there any plans to turn this into an in-app feature on mobile so that cooler stuff can release for the music charts? (Like support for adding songs to a playlist with the Spotify and Apple Music APIs)

As mentioned in the FAQ the algorithm combines playtime and adoption (e.g., the number of experiences that play a specific track), to determine what’s trending. If a user plays custom music in an experience such as Obby Creator that counts as one experience the audio was adopted in. Then the players that listen to that custom music counts towards the playtime metric. Note that the audio needs to have a verified ISRC attached to it to be surfaced in these charts.

If the audio track is never listened to then it will not count towards the metrics we use to calculate the top charts.

We use a mix of human and automated moderation on the audio we receive from DistroKid and are constantly working on improving our moderation accuracy. If you see something that slipped past please use the Report feature on the website or in studio to have it re-reviewed!

For some reason, I think this is a bad idea. Not sure what’s gonna happen but I guess time will only tell.

Is there a way to provide an ISRC code to existing already released releases, or does it apply only to newly released tracks? And if ISRC exists already on the release, is there a way to check it? I recall adding ISRC codes to existing releases but I don’t see any way to verify if they were added.

can you guys allow us to load this chart using SearchAudio() and also since it seems you’ve now added song icon support, can you let us get the song icons as well with that. that would be awesome

Yes, thank you for your feedback. We are looking into that for early next year. We’ll keep you posted.

Thank you for the feedback, and yes, we are doing more work on Album Artwork next year. We’ll also be looking into making the charts available through API access. It’s great to see that there’s demand for it.

As a electronic music composer, producer this is the best update we’ve gotten. I am actually really happy that y’all partnered up with a popular music distributor, which allows artist to distribute their music to roblox.

Public. Audio. Now.

Its cool that you’re adding all these additions to audio/music but its useless if you have to go through 20 different hoops just to make your audio public.

Will we get the option to play public sounds without needing to give the experience permission for it, so players can use things like boomboxes or change the music in a area. or maybe a API that can let us play songs the player chooses.
