BlockLua | The blazingly fast visual scripting plugin for Roblox. Code with blocks, like in Scratch!

I have been having 2 issues of late.

  1. I have BlockLua on a 2nd monitor - it goes away doing a test (understandable), but when it comes back after the test, it goes to the Studio Work Screen

  2. Problem after I move or close BlockLua - my work area is all BLUR :man_facepalming:

Any suggestions is appreciated - Thx.

Hey, i saw that to make a BlockLua Online account you gotta make a password, wouldn’t it be easier if we could just link our roblox account?

Bug fix patch!

I’ve fixed three bugs in this update.

  1. Studio freezing when making a specific type of custom block – FIXED
  2. Script contents being removed when switching scripts very fast – FIXED
  3. When making a new script, you couldn’t edit it right away – FIXED

@TQNY2

  1. I couldn’t replicate the bug with the plugin windows going back to the studio screen. What OS are you using?
  2. I can’t really figure out this bug… Please head into the plugin settings and change the blur effect size to 0 in the mean time.

I am using Windows 10 Pro (x64 bit)
I tested it again with a Script on Part - it went normal - back to it’s position  (after stopping).
Then I added a LocalScript (print msg) to the same part - which didn’t print (to output)… then I stopped the test again - and it went to my Work Screen - and repeats it - even after deleting the LocalScript :frowning:

As for the Blur - it hasn’t returned today - maybe something to do with the Daily Roblox Update :man_shrugging: so ALL good on that 1 :+1:

ALSO:
Any ideas why sometimes I try drag a block(s) into the BlockLua script area (after first adding the script)… but it won’t show the blocks… but if I save it… and switch the script to view it’s contents in the normal Roblox script - it shows the script items there that I dragged over.
For some reason, (±50% of the time) I just can’t see the Block Coding :man_shrugging:
I have to restart Studio to make it work again.

Guess I need to practice more - and see what I am doing wrong.

Hmm… would you mind sharing a screen recording? It would help me a lot to figure out what is happening exactly and I can probably look into it this week.

I’ll try to reproduce and fix this issue as well, thank you for the reports.

I’ll recreate it when it happens again - none for now.

So I was going over your 2 video’s you made - following your direction.
I made the KillBrick first - it worked fine.
Then I made the Portal Doors - that worked fine too.

Then I went back to see the KillBrick script in Roblox script.
But without changes, I wanted to open it again in BlockLau… and says it’s not a BL script.

What would corrupt it ?

Also, I find it very difficult work on 1 monitor as I try follow your video on the other.
How do you work with it on 1 monitor - none of BlockLua is collapsible.
It would be nice if the left half could be toggled to auto-hide after dragging the block to the right.

As you can see… this is my 2nd monitor … shared by BlockLua & your Youtube tutorial.

So just a thought… or picking your brain - how do you do it.
Maybe you have a large screen & a higher resolution ?

Here’s images to show how I struggle on 1 monitor (wanting my other monitor for the tutorial).
As said - would be nice if “B” can be “left minimized”- so that I can have more Work area in Studio.
(if it doesn’t open - click to view - some devforum bug)

And this is docked… same situation.

I get the impression that one MUST use a 2nd monitor for BlockLua
Any suggestions ?
Thanks.

Thank you, I’ll definitely find a way to fix that.

That’s a pretty good idea. I’ll try to implement it for sure.

Bug fix!

I fixed a bug which caused the plugin to stop working when importing corrupted custom blocks. Now the plugin should detect these blocks and not try to load them.

I’m still working on that, it turns out it’s more difficult to implement than I thought.

Duplicate script feature + bug fix

Hello!

I’ve added the long requested feature of being able to duplicate BlockLua scripts. Now you can find it in the “Settings & Tools” menu, by dragging down or clicking on the top bar in the plugin.

It will create a duplicate of the currently opened BlockLua script.
Important: changes made in the original script will NOT reflect in its duplicates.

Bug fix:
I’ve fixed the bug that could make blocks disappear after dragging them into specific spots, when having lots of custom blocks installed.

I’m planning to add official module script support in the near future (it’s currently only possible if you make custom blocks)

Please make sure you always use the latest version of the plugin.
Have a great day!

Nice Update

Also - is there a way stop BlockLua from taking up the whole of my “Work Space” on start-up ?
I would like it to only open when I select the BlockLua Plugin - (this shouldn’t be forced).
I can’t see a way to control it.
Thanks.

What do you mean by taking up the whole workspace on start up?

When I start Studio… I expect to see this… the workspace.

But instead this is what I see… and is intrusive.
I need it to show only when I want to use it - not just autoload by itself.

There should be an option to disable it.
I deselect the Plugin (not in use), but every time I restart Studio - BlockLau comes back.

Thank you for the report!
Seems like that bug was pretty simple to fix, and it should work now as intended. Please update BlockLua.

Thank you so much !!
I see it pops up for a sec… then it closes - but at least it’s gone before I can even move the mouse lol

Unfortunately, I can’t provide an exact release date yet. However, module scripts will surely be released before BL Online.

“Blazingly fast” and “visual scripting” don’t belong in the same paragraph

I don’t see why you would say that. I’ve tested the plugin with extreme number of blocks on two operating systems on two different machines and it worked perfectly fine. Of course if you have really low-end hardware, it might struggle a bit.
