As a developer, it was quite handy to resize with Scale tool while holding Ctrl or Shift, back in the day when it got shipped.
Now some recent update broke the way the size of the part updated, and thus made this method cumbersome. Let me explain:
The Ctrl/Shift, if held while dragging scale handles would allow to scale from center/opposite face.
How it was originally
If you stopped holding Ctrl/Shift (while still holding the scale handle), the part would return to it’s original size/position.
How it is now
If you stop holding Ctrl/Shift (while you already made a size change and are holding the scale handle), the part will keep the size/position.
Why does it matter?
Often if I wanted to change my camera position when I was resizing this way, I could easily just let go of Ctrl/Shift, move my camera, hold those keys again and apply the change with letting the mouse button.
Now I cannot do that as I have to hold these keys whatever what. Then I have to Undo, and scale again.
This is just one example.
It would be much easier if the size would be applied only if I let go of mouse button. Just like it was originally.
Considering Shift has other uses too, it’s less disturbing for all players.
Most – if not all – that use Shift to move camera slower, will be annoyed of holding Shift to control both actions at once.
Not only this, CTRL+Drag now scales on both sides instead of just on that axis, leading to double the increment being added to that axis instead of just one. Annoying when I’m making corners and small stuff.
Umm… Using Ctrl while scaling should do just that thing.
It resizes in both directions of the axis (+ axis and – axis).
Not sure what you mean with the second part tho. It doesn’t double anything, it stays the same increment on each axis no matter if I hold Ctrl or not. I’ve seen SBS dividing the increment if I ResizeCenter but I don’t remember if normal studio scale tool ever done the same.
Probably didn’t explain it properly - they changed it so for example, you have a 1x1x1 brick and your increment is set to 1, every scaling thing you do makes it 2 larger on that axis, so it would go from 1x1x1 to 3x1x1 to 5x1x1 instead of 1x1x1 to 2x1x1 etc.
Well Ctrl is used to resize only in both directions of one axis.
The thing you’re talking about can be achieved via holding Shift (or Ctrl + Shift to scale from exact center).
I still don’t understand what you mean.
Ctrl/Shift on scale function was always the same in Roblox Studio. Only difference before and now has been described in OP.
Maybe that’s what you mean by “different and slightly less functional”?
can’t really explain it properly. they changed what you posted in the OP as well as making the CTRL scaling scale twice on both sides instead of one in total, for example this with the increment set to 1 stud:
Yea, I get what you mean.
As said earlier, SBS splits the increment in two.
I don’t recall Roblox Studio to ever do it in the same way, but maybe you’re right and they’ve actually changed it.
