Changes to Roblox Plus Private Server Limits

Hi Creators,

Starting September 24, 2026, we’re updating Roblox Plus to include one free private server per game. When we first introduced unlimited private servers, our goal was to give Plus members as much flexibility as possible. However, we found that a small number of Plus members were creating thousands of free paid private servers per game with broad access, which unintentionally impacted creator revenue. We didn’t expect this, and we’re fixing it. We’re making this change in September so that, moving forward, we can better support the systems you’ve built and help protect the payouts you’ve earned.

Because the majority of Plus members only use one free private server per game, this update won’t affect how most people experience your games. Players can still purchase extra servers at your set price, opening up a direct opportunity for you to earn more from players who want additional private spaces.

What Will Happen to Multiple Free Private Servers

If a Plus member has multiple free private servers in a single game, they’ll keep one. The extra ones will start to expire on September 24, 2026. Any private servers purchased separately are not affected and will continue through their original payment method.

Maximizing Creator Payouts

This update is meant to benefit your earnings. The 60-minute qualification threshold for creator payouts relies on concentrated playtime. By establishing a one free private server per game framework, we ensure playtime remains consolidated. This increases the likelihood that these servers qualify and generate consistent payouts for your game. You can learn more about how creator payouts work here.

What’s Next

We’ll post a follow-up here in September, when this change goes into effect.

Let us know if you have any questions or feedback. Thank you.

FAQs

Does this affect private servers I purchased? Or only ones I got free through Plus?

  • Only Plus-granted servers are affected. Any private server you purchased directly at the creator-set price continues through its original payment method and is not canceled.

I have more than one Plus-granted server in a game. Which one do I keep?

  • If you have multiple free private servers in the same game: You will automatically keep one. Look for the server marked “Included with Roblox Plus” in Settings > Subscriptions – that’s the one that stays active. Your other free servers in that game will stop renewing and expire on their listed dates starting September 24, 2026. You will not be billed for these expiring servers, and you can manually deactivate any unwanted servers at any time.

Can I still have multiple private servers in one game?

  • Yes. You can purchase as many additional private servers as you want at the creator-set price. The one-per-game limit applies only to servers provided free through your Plus subscription.

Does this affect free private servers in games that offer them for free?

  • No. This change only applies to paid private servers. Free private servers in games that offer them at no cost are not affected.

Does this change how private servers work for players I’ve invited?

  • No. Private servers remain accessible to anyone you’ve invited, including when you’re offline. That behavior is not changing.

How does this interact with the Plus private server payout for creators?

  • This update benefits the payout model. The 60-minute qualification threshold works best when a Plus member’s playtime is concentrated in one server per game. Multiple free servers dilute playtime, making it harder for an individual server to qualify. With the one-per-game limit, more servers are likely to hit the threshold and generate a payout.

What happens if a user buys Plus for one month, makes a free server, and cancels?

  • The free server is tied to an active subscription. If the subscription lapses or is canceled, the free private server will automatically expire at the end of that remaining billing cycle.

Why one server and not more, say, five?

  • The majority of Plus members already have only one Plus-granted server per game. The one-per-game limit addresses the outlier behavior causing the abuse without affecting the vast majority of members.

What if I’ve been using multiple servers in the same game for legitimate reasons?

  • You can continue using multiple servers, you’ll just need to purchase the additional ones at the creator-set price.

How do payouts work if my game teleports players out of a private server?

  • Payouts are based on the private server owner accumulating at least 60 cumulative minutes of playtime inside that specific private server during their billing cycle. To maximize your Roblox Plus payouts, design your gameplay to allow the private server owner to continue engaging within their primary private server instance.

So as far as i know, some people created a bot/service with roblox plus to create free private servers for everybody which may or may not have caused this change

If this reduces the bot farms. Then this is a fair update

This is why we can’t have nice things. But, something had to be done. I’m surprised there wasn’t a more reasonable limit (like 10 or something less) to these free “paid” private servers earlier.

Can Roblox take that kind of service down or ban the account(s) responsible if it’s abusing the Roblox Plus/private server system? Since this behavior is clearly exploiting the system and harming creator revenue, it seems like targeted enforcement against the abusers would be more appropriate than removing value from legitimate Plus users.

That would demand an overwhelming amount of resources, i think this is a more reasonable and straight-forward change, since i don’t think most people were making use of multiple private servers.
(Though to be fair i believe they could have at least capped it off to something higher than 1)

this is what we call a “perverse incentive”
a little sad because i did like giving private server links to my friends but also what did you expect to happen

This is terrible, I have 4 Private Servers for my game, either make it 5 max per game or let Developers create Private servers for free on their own games

People will complain obviously (with every roblox update) but I see this as a understandable update.

It reduces botting farms some players do with tons of private servers, and other things,

its obviously bad for people who had many private servers and were using them with good intention, but this update fixes more bads than goods, so its decent

It seemed crazy to me that it wasn’t there. It doesn’t make sense that a developer can’t have a free private server for their own game, regardless of Plus.

Yeah i understand why this update happens but please fix the subscriptions page???

Honestly 1 VIP server is enough for most games, I’m kinda surprised they didn’t just start with that

Maybe im being pedantic, but this feels a bit scummy.

If i remember correctly, one of the main selling points for Plus was unlimited private servers. Not just one!

And now, a month or two later, its being removed? I know you keep one, but at least raise the limit to 5 to help keep the original promise.

i mean you coulda just done 3 P-S’s per game i guess, but one will stop bot farming soooo yeah
but who, in their right minds, uses nonillions of private servers per game tho???
wayy too much bots

It’s almost like developers knew this was going to happen and tried to warn you in the original thread. Better late than never I guess.

So from unlimited private servers to just one? That seems like an overreaction. Like others have said, just give a reasonable limit so if people have Plus they can still have free private servers in the games they play.

Wow! If only developers were against this change from the beginning because we foresaw that the revenue hit would be big! Crazy.

I guess this means Roblox lost enough money from this change they needed to revert it, kinda funny

Now they just need to revert the rest of how monetization works around it

Not sure why this is getting criticized! There’s very rare cases where you need more than one private server for a game. This just helps prevents botting. Good update.

This is how I learn developers can’t make their own private servers for free.
That’s insane to me and seems like it HAS to just be an oversight, right??
