No messages are getting translated, despite chat translation being active and the chat messages very clearly being anything other than english
This feature only worked very briefly for me before breaking indefinitely
The chat translation should translate the messages in Chat, while I don’t expect that absolutely everything is gonna get translated, this is just something else
I’ve experienced the chat translation working for a good while now, works well for me. There might be a couple of reasons as to why it doesn’t work, well if it’s disabled in the settings, or if the language is not properly set for the sender
Can’t say anything about the state of chat translation as of now, but it was working a couple of days ago
I would love to be able to set multiple languages as the Chat Translation Language, as I was speaking with my sister in french one time, and it was translating everything she said into english (and pretty poorly), while I speak french at home. I did not notice until much later…
Option to view untranslated message was turned off (because it is off by default, and my roblox player got reinstalled for reasons… I always leave it on)
Just so this argument of “oh that other text wasn’t of a supported langauge” can’t be used, here’s an instance of the chat translation not translating russian while chat translation is on with russian being selectable, which should mean that translation from russian to english is supported, shouldn’t it?
Hello! Thank you for reporting this. You are correct in that Russian text should be translatable to English text.
In your most recent screenshot, is your personal chat translation setting set to English?
One possibility I am considering is that it is possible that both you and the other chatter have the same chat language setting, and they simply happen to be typing text that isn’t English.
In that scenario, I believe it is possible that translation of that text isn’t happening since even though visually it is clear that what you are seeing is NOT the same language, the system believes both chatters are in the same language, and thus doesn’t bother to attempt translation at all.
I will try to block some time with the relevant folks and try to reproduce this on our end once they are available. I’m not sure how fast the turnaround time will be on that.
In the meantime, which platform are you using when encountering this issue? Based on the screenshots it looks like it is on a mobile device.
It seems like this isn’t a one off problem, but some users are experiencing it consistently while for others things are working fine.
Just joined a game and multiple users were speaking Arabic(?) and nothing was being translated. Worth noting they also spoke some limited English at times. But regardless of whether their language is set to English or not, I’d expect Roblox to detect that another language is being spoken and at least attempt to translate the content. Lots of users that don’t speak English as a primary language don’t bother changing their account’s language setting, as is evident here. This makes chat translation very limited in terms of functionality.
