Yup, you got my point. It is a huge privacy concern and I will not be verifying my ID, and I am sure that parents of children between the ages of 13-18 will not agree for their children to send their ID to some company through the internet.
I think Goldy means that some malicious software could be put in the 3rd partyâs servers to capture ID data.
Stripe is trusted by tons of companies, their whole business is dealing with the privacy and protections laws instead of making their client vulnerable. If youâve ever made any kind of purchase or id verification on the internet, it was most likely handled by Stripe. Please do your research.^
Iâm not sure if Iâm the only person to run into this issue so far, but Iâve had spatial sound beta enabled for a little under 2 weeks now and I have yet to hear other people with it enabled. Iâve restarted my pc, checked my computer settings, set my audio and recording devices to what I want them to be, joined new servers, etc etc⌠but I still havenât been able to hear anyone else talk. I can see their icons change when they speak, so I know the game is picking up their mics, but it is not playing their voices for me.
I have a Hyper X QuadcastS microphone and Beyer Dynamic DT990 Pro headphones with a LOXJIE P20 AMP.
Once again, I am talking about a server exploit, not a client sided one.
Obviously the only main concern for this is the security risk.
Ah, I see. Yes, this is also possible but at the same time this could be true for payment or DevEx information. At a certain point you have to trust that this large company has put adequate thought into protecting user information.
There is unfortunately no way to fully guarantee on Robloxâs end that they wonât store information shared to them through the verification process. That is the unfortunate truth, no matter if theyâre genuine or not, there is no way to truly prove that they will not store your information.
Therefore it is reasonable to just outright not participate in the Voice Chat service as a result. It is not paranoid or unreasonable, if someone doesnât want their information to potentially be stored no matter how slim the chance is, then they may not participate in the service.
It is not exactly a matter of âWhat if they put a virus on the Roblox servers?â or âWhat if they get hacked?â. Itâs just a matter of trust.
In the end I personally think that asking for the IDs of user is very outrageous and strange, but I cannot personally think of a better solution in the end. In a perfect world we would leave these things to the parents of the users, but obviously mistakes will be made.
Which is null, considering Stripe is by far the most popular and reputable company to deal with this kind of information.
-
ID verification by Roblox is not handled by Stripe, but by veriff. Iâve worked with Stripe before, I know what Stripe is, Iâve even sent my ID to them.

If done properly, there should be no issues with the ID verification. But again, if put in wrong hands, this could be a huge privacy concern.
DevEx does not ask you to show your face to a camera and for a scan of your ID.
Additionally, DevEx is limited to developers, there arenât a lot of us, meaning - we arenât as valuable as milions of ID scans.
If T-Mobile managed to get 45,000,000 customer records leaked (just last month), think of Veriff/Roblox, much smaller companies who probably dedicate less money towards security.
Which considering all of the legal trouble Roblox would get for messing this up, it wonât happen.
Roblox does NOT have direct access to your ID or face, therefore thereâs nothing they can do to mess it up.
The point of these companies is to make sure the sensitive data never reaches their clients.
Please sort this table by date, look at the âmuch larger companies than Robloxâ part of it, look at how many of them were breached in the past year or two.
So when do the ânot so importantâ developers gain access?
Does anyone know how reliable Veriff is?
I donât want to share my private info with a company that I canât trust.
To be fair, I donât know how safe their security is but all I could find on the Internet was this:
This means that any developer can enable Spatial Voice in their experiences and they can test it with Team Test in Studio, but access to use Voice is still limited. Only developers who have been invited to participate in Spatial Voice Developer Beta (invites are sent via Private Message) will be able to hear others talking within Team Test in Studio.
I never got invited to the beta yet developers with 1% of my gameplay visits did
Realize that even if Roblox may not have the data, someone else will. Such a target will be more appealing to malicious actors, as more information will pool into one source.
Eitherway, going under the assumption that our data is being stored (which it almost always is). A single point that could fail is not something I would want to trust.
Now look at how many actively deal with sensitive data such as government IDs.
Stripe and veriff are both dedicated companies that specifically deal with this kind of data. Theyâll have way better infrastructure in place to deal with this kind of data. Once again, thatâs the point of their existence, push the burden of securing this data to people specialized at this kind of thing.
Iâm sorry, but you canât compare Adobeâs plaintext password shenanigans with the amount of research and budget invested into these companyâs data protection.
