Circumventing lootbox bans

Suppose I was to create a lootbox which tells the user what item they would obtain if purchased, and then after a purchase, the item changes to a randomly selected different item. Would this be classified as a paid random item under the Roblox platform? I know some other games have implemented this system outside of Roblox.

You tell the user if they purchase this they will receive item x but instead you give them item y? That’s called a scam. Am I misinterpreting?

This is straight up called scamming actually.

@BillB1ox and @Orbular3 are right, this would definitely get your game taken down for scamming. The ToS explicitly lists this as something that falls under that category:

That’s outside of Roblox.

No, you’ve completely misinterpreted the question. The user is informed that they will receive item x if they buy lootbox A, Once lootbox A has been purchased they receive item x, and then the item contained within lootbox a will change to item y, so when lootbox a is purchased a second time, they receive item y, which the user knows beforehand too.

In that case it’s not a paid random item since the user is fully aware of what they will receive after buying the lootobox.

Although I wonder why you call it a lootbox if it just contains one guaranteed item? Couldn’t you just sell that guaranteed item instead of the lootbox?

Because the item in the box will change randomly after each purchase so it’s a lootbox but a user knows in advance what item they get next

Not sure I know what you mean here - if you’re listing the odds of EVERY item in the box, that’s totally fine.

If you meant telling the player the next item they’ll unbox, but you end up giving something else entirely, that’s misleading or scamming depending on how you do it.

Any kind of lootbox mechanic that involves paid currency counts.

Gee, can’t be because Roblox have different rules from other platforms because they’re serving primarily children…

Also some countries outright forbid lootboxes or anything of the sort. You should use PolicyService to check if a player is allowed to participate under their jurisdiction.

If you read this message you’ll understand the question better

I have the exact same question, but I don’t really think this would be classified as a paid random item because the player know exactly what he will get before purchasing it insted of it being random.
