Roblox should not be worrying about some ONE kid’s eyes. The triviality of this small edge case is a factor in how much moderation efforts to be used. They are taking this WAY out of proportion. If a kid can read code, I’m sure he can handle some swear words or even less severe, personal information.
Basically Roblox doesn’t want more parents reports mentioning the inappropriated stuff that their childrens are watching, which should be their parents responsibility, but its still in a minor way Roblox’s fault.
They do, its objective is have a secure platform where kids can play in a safe and healthy way.
I’m sure one of the previous 850 replies has already got the point below across, but I’m going to reiterate what has been said above anyways.
Why moderate closed-source scripts?
No one sees them anyways except for the programmer. What’s the point? Who does it save? The programmer from their own programming?
I 100% agree with this. I feel like having my code reviewed is sort of a violation, how can I trust that these users will no simply take our code and sell it somewhere?
I’m also wondering why. Did they actually find a closed-source script lying around with actual personal information from random people? I think the chances are pretty low.
Just to put how much weve all been complaining into context, we all talked about this more then Premuim Payouts which allows us to earn more money, So, we care more about this update then litterally the update giving us money.
Removal of closed source modules had over 1,000 replies, most if not all were against the removal, and yet Roblox continued with it anyways. It’s obvious that most if not all of these replies will be ignored.
Personally, I think it would be best if ROBLOX added a “Teen/Adult” section (and which they would focus more on the children section), where more mature players can make more mature games and play more mature games. This would add the ability to do things we couldn’t before (but still limiting things so it’s not excessive , I’m meaning the usage of more stern words and not so very fun beverages for us young’ns that we totally are.), and would make developers much more freedom on their games, especially War or gritty Zombie Apocalypse esc games. You have to go outside to do that which is a shame.
But that’s me and that idea could totally backfire. Because SOCIETY!
We could complain all we want and probably get up to 1000 comments, yet it doesn’t matter; they won’t respond.
But that won’t stop us from trying to get what we want, and that is our privacy as users on this platform.
I don’t want to falsify the narrative of being kid-friendly, but they only need to keep up with the media and news. If you don’t see bad mentions of Roblox there, then parents will not hesitate as strongly to allowing children to play on the platform. Most of the actual articles I see involve exploits (before FilteringEnabled requirements), or some form of chat violation. Roblox needs to prioritize those fields, before ruining the actual way the platform functions in any way, scripts.
Roblox has destroyed any hope at good faith by violating it themselves. Torches and pitchforks look to be our only options now.
If moderators are going to be looking at our code, knowing that they could spring a leak and go rogue at any moment, with the ability to leak any of our projects, we might as well just uncopylock everything we have.
There’s literally no need for others to be snooping around in our code, especially when we dont want them to.
Mind you, ROBLOX is a game-developing platform specifically aimed at a mostly younger audience, and although that may be proof against my argument, let me just say that with this script moderating measure put in place, that is technically going against one of the many guidelines they have been faced wand have tried to conform with: Not to keep track of any personal or private information from those under 13. If somebody under 13 is coding something, and let’s say that, somehow, their private code manages to get put under review for moderation, that is almost quite literally a violation of those guidelines.
However, it is not just the confidentiality of private things being kept private amongst those under 13, but it is also amongst those older than 13 too. There are many problems with this, and it’s clear that ROBLOX is not answering us because they know what they are doing is wrong, they just don’t want to admit it. On top of that, they also don’t give any warnings for punishments placed on those who weren’t fully aware until recently. What reasons would you need for moderating something private, that nobody else can see besides the developer, apart from using it as a way to mask your true intent, which is just to spy on what others are working on?
This invasion of privacy will not go unnoticed, nor will people’s lack of trust in them doing so.
Honest response: That’s never going to be stopped, basically impossible to solve.
As i said, this is necessary, but poorly managed, there are stuff that must need to be fixed, to prevent unfair bans.
And as i said, Roblox is allowing <13 kids to play, and they need a way to protect their kids, basically this is away to do it, but not managed very well, I think we should care about that, dont think that because you are +13, <13 kids need to see inappropriated stuff. End
Could you explain it, Please?
No. Roblox hasn’t had enough.
Devs have.
Let’s say you joined a game right now, not uncopylocked or anything, and they had swear words in their code.
Since you aren’t the developer of the game, you can’t access the code written in the scripts, or else you’d be able to steal it and do whatever you want with it.
That’s one of the big problems people have. Why should we have private code moderated that nobody can see?
Free models and code open sourced through the platform are both already reportable.
As someone who is making a story game and needs to add text dialouge Im very scared to make it then be met with a termination because I put something like cross in the text that is filtered in regular chat, I do not want to be terminated for trying to make a roblox game. It would be better if they would warn you first.
I’m still deleting my places, I started yesterday and I’m still doing it as I’m typing this.
Is there a quicker way rather than just going in the studio and emptying it out?
