[CLOSED] Bloxville Pool Programmer Needed (45% rev) 120k funds

About Us

About me

Hi, I’m Penguim I’ve been on roblox since 2009. I’ve been building since 2010 and 3D modelling since late 2016. I started working on Bloxville Pool in October 2018 and I am looking for a programmer to work on my game called Bloxville Pool with me.

The Team
@penguim2 - Builder, Modeller
(Yes it’s just me so far i only think a small team is required for this job but tasks can be outsourced if needed like i did with the game logo.)

About The Job

I am looking for a programmer who is at least at an intermediate level as the role will involve scripting some minigames within the game, a monetary system and other tasks which require more than a basic understanding of programming.

Responsibilities

Our game needs to be at least within alpha testing by mid July in order to catch that increase in player rates so many other games experience over the summer. Then if the game is a success you may also be needed for updates. I will not demand that you do a spend a set amount of time each day/week working on the game as everyone’s schedules are different however if you are interested i do expect you to be as committed to this game as i am. Do not apply to this as a side project.

Payment

I am offering to pay you 45% of the game revenue where another 45% will go to me and the remaining 10% will be invested back into the game through ads. I have an initial 120k robux to spend on ads to launch the game however that robux is not legible for DevEx so i can’t offer any form of payment up front. I’ve seen other offers in the past which have been similar where people have been deterred due to the lack of up front payment so because of this 60% of the work involved with modelling and building the game has already been completed to show that I am committed to completing this game. This is not something that will be discontinued halfway through the development process.

Hi there, penguim2.

I’d like to take you up on the job, but I just have a few questions:

  • Would you still be able to pay upfront instead of game revenue?

  • Do you have time limits on when certain tasks should be complete?

  • How can you guarantee that 45% will be worth while, if there is no concurrent or active players?

Sorry to be a pain, thanks!

credit to @ Zela_Kantal for the icon for those interested.

  • Unfortunately i don’t have any DevEx legible robux to give so this is why i haven’t offered any upfront payment however i understand that this would be an issue if the game did not work out as planned in which case i guess the programmer can have minimum 60k robux for their troubles (and then the 30% deduction fee on top of that to make it 60k after.)
  • There are no tight time limits on when certain tasks should be completed but i would expect a functioning game with enough features working for players to enjoy in it’s beta phase by July (minimum 2 minigames, a monetary system and scripts to make the floats work on the slide all working.)

What if those didn’t mind if the payment wasn’t ‘DeveEx legible robux’ - would you still then pay upfront?

I’m not to fussed about the Developer Exchange myself, hence the reason of asking - just looking to gain decent reputation to prove myself and earn a little.

I’m assuming what you mean by not eligible for DevEx is that it’s money you’ve earned via trading or selling limiteds. If you use that Robux via purchasing someone’s clothing or if you purchasing clothing in your group and then give that money to someone else, that is a legitimate method of turning the Robux into DevEx eligible money. Obviously though, you’ll lose 30% from the taxes.

Do you offer USD as pay?

Hey there!
I sent a friend request on Discord, and I am happy to help with your project. Your payment options will work fine.

Thanks,
MrBob101

Nope, sorry.

Please keep in mind that not all New Members are on the same skill level and each often has their own unique set of skills. New Member just refers to their trust level on the DevForum meaning that they were recently (post-New Member implementation) accepted into the DevForum which doesn’t correlate with their skill level as most, if not all, people are accepted as a New Member.

Not everyone got accepted recently. It might as well mean that they’ve been here for a while but just aren’t contributing enough to the Forums (not going to give you examples since I don’t want to start any unnecessary arguments.).

So going with your logic, let’s say that up-front payment was 50%. Since you’re also a New Member, should the other party also be worried about you not really keeping your side of the deal?

The irony is strong here.
Following the same logic, the other person should also be worried about you not fulfilling your promise, since you are also a New Member.

Ranks here say nothing about skill: A very experienced developer might have joined the developer forums recently, or vice versa.

Edit:
Apparently other people already pointed this out, oops.

Ok i understand that i was wrong about the new member thing but please if you’re not interested in my offer please don’t comment on this post as i got it the first time around when Krunnie said it.

This is just my personal view, as I’m a beginner project leader myself so this may be misinterpreted as bias. I don’t believe we should be obligated to pay up front for something we haven’t received. Hypothetically speaking if we paid up front without the task being complete, and there’s no further payment to be distributed exactly what is their motive to continue working? The only valid reason at that point would be to maintain their reputation. Which unfortunately not everyone values reputation compared to how they value money.

However with that being said, I understand why they prefer pay up front. In the past, developers have been taken advantage of or mislead. Whether it was pay not being distributed if the project had failed or if the project had been unexpectedly cancelled with a large proportion of the scripters end being complete resulting in their time being wasted.

There’s three possible ways to approach this:

  • Pay up front
  • Remain patient until someone will consider your deal.
  • Pay half now, pay the rest after they’ve got a large proportion of it complete (90% of the time this compromise is rejected)

Never pay upfront. Anyone who asks upfront pay is doing you a dis-service. They can be paid once they produce the work.

And many developers, myself included, have been screwed by paying someone prior to work, and work never being produced.

Can relate, it’s a trust factor for both parties unfortunately.

Ummm?

How could we trust that you could actually make the payments. You shouldn’t judge somebody by their ‘Trust Level’ but by their maturity, professionalism and actually trial them beforehand to make sure they’re legitimate. @GeorgeOfAIITrades, paying upfront helps with motivation as well as proving that he can provide payment.

In my opinion it should be done this way: (game revenue can’t always be guaranteed so it wouldn’t be fair to not ‘pay upfront’).

50% payment upfront
50% development
100% payment upfront
100% development
