i knew this would happen, the way Roblox makes decisions is all too predictable. now my formerly nice looking and polished rthro characters are deformed with unnaturally thin shapes, and top layers of clothing clipping into distorted flesh.
I wasn’t using the fast flags to test the update and my Studio updated yesterday. I was just trying to set the value out for the hell of it, and suddenly, puffiness is working again for me.
Was the functionality of that value re-added back in? Can anyone else who had the update rolled out for them confirm it works again?
Here’s a (non practical) quick example I was trying:
Even ShrinkFactor works again!
Are you sure the update didn’t just completely disable itself, i.e. is the new fitting algorithm still being used?
Because Puffiness still doesn’t work if I manually enable the flags. Unless there’s a separate flag that toggles Puffiness/ShrinkFactor/etc.
Like I said, I wasn’t using the fast flags, but I am not sure if the new fitting algorithm is being used. If you could give me an avatar to test, I could upload a screenshot for you to compare. The file you uploaded in a previous post is private, so I don’t have a way to download it.
I guess you could just use my current avatar, since it’s very easy to tell whether it’s using the new algorithm or not.
Command bar: game.Players:CreateHumanoidModelFromUserId(21506586).Parent=workspace
Or you could use the pack of avatars I sent in another post.
I deleted the previous code I sent because it loaded a specific outfit ID instead of my user ID, and I’m not super comfortable with leaving that out on a public forum.
That one gives me an “Oops! That page is private.” message, but I’ll try inserting your avatar and see what it does.
Seems like it’s the older algorithm?
Yeah that’s 100% using the old algorithm.
Unless Roblox somehow made it so that LC items using non-default Puffiness values will automatically switch back to using the old algorithm, your Studio probably had the new LC system completely disabled.
Fixed this, sorry and thanks for letting me know. It worked for me so I didn’t think anything of it.
I’m guessing that if you upload a file in a DM on the DevForum, only people with access to the DM are able to download the file. This doesn’t seem to apply to images. A lot of times when I write large posts I tend to compose them in a DM to myself, and then just copy it over to the main thread, so I don’t have to keep the entire message stored in a draft.
I have found that the new algorithm has been rolled back on my end. Both in game on the Roblox client and in studio. The puffiness property seems to be working and my LC assets are fitting ‘correctly’ once again.
However, this could all be just temporary while they trouble shoot some of the new algorithm. But hopefully this isn’t the case and they’re instead working on a better workaround for LC issues without affecting existing LC assets. Considering the feedback that has been voiced regarding the attempt at implementing the new algorithm.
Seeing Roblox rolling back the changes is a good sign. Let’s hope they follow through with doing what we asked for instead of what was actually given
I randomly had this change enabled for about an hour today on most platforms I could test (desktop app, iOS app, Studio) before it disabled itself again. I wonder what that was about.
when is this out? i cant change anything yet i dont understand where is it going
One of my friends just got the update and it broke their avatars. Sigh. Why is Roblox still trying to push this update after how much we’ve said against it?
Here is my friend’s avatar:
You can see that the shirt and pants are clipping into the body pretty badly with this update
Roblox, stop this update. You can clearly see it breaks more than it fixes!
More of my friends are getting this update. Why? Why are none of our concerns addressed or even considered at all? I guess us not being shareholders is the reason
Guess that I am no longer going to be using layered clothing. Back to classic clothing I go once I get the update
Does anyone knows any way to make layered clothing less puffy, currently?
Got the update. Ended up doing exactly what I kept complaining it would do.
Ruined most of my avatars in the style I enjoy! I guess I will update all those avatars to remove layered clothing entirely and look into workarounds of any kind.
Layered clothing is officially ruined for me. Thanks, Roblox, for pretending to care and ending up not giving a single crap. Hope your shareholders are proud!
Thanks for ruining layered clothing for me, Roblox!
Just had this change forcibly enabled on all platforms that I can test. Desktop app, Windows UWP app, iOS app, and Studio. It’s even enabled in user thumbnails now.
If this is permanent, then I don’t see any reason to continue using LC.
My avatar is ruined. So many LC items I’ve bought over the last 3 years are now useless, and obviously I can’t get a refund. There’s no point in using LC with my avatar if I can’t fine-tune it. And while I was planning on revamping it, I guess I’ll just have to close my “Layered Clothing Editor” place, since it no longer serves a purpose.
THIS is what I get for being one of the few who’s actually willing to experiment with cool new avatar tech, instead of just using a blocky avatar with classic clothing like most people would.
I’ve been a longtime user of LC ever since it came out. Thought it was super cool - 3D clothing that you can use to literally shape yourself a new body, and it works with any combination of body parts, enabling so many new possibilities! Classic clothing is nowhere near as customizable as this.
I’ve also made it pretty clear that this update shouldn’t ship in its current state. I literally have more replies than anyone else here. But despite all the feedback, Roblox still felt like releasing the update anyway. And for what? At least for me, this update introduces absolutely no positive additions that aren’t completely outweighed by the negatives.
I’ll never forget what an engineer told me in 2023:
So anyway, thanks for scamming me out of my Robux. LC was fun while it lasted, I guess.
Perhaps I can just try to get used to the new changes, but I shouldn’t have to do this. I want my avatar to be left exactly the way I designed it. Almost every single avatar I’ve ever made with LC looks worse now.
Maybe I’ll finally consider learning Blender just so that I can design a custom body which preserves the old fitting of my clothes. And then I’ll have to pay even more to finally upload it… just so that I can never use any other LC items ever again.
Yep I just got the update as well… I called it! And we’re back once again with a mutilated algorithm for layered clothing items. This update just isn’t it… But Hey, Roblox is going to cater to majority the right? Little to no thought or consideration for backwards compatibility, It’s just thrown right out the window. A majority of the previous items which were made within the parameters of the previous layered clothing algorithm doesn’t look right or fit correctly anymore using the new one. Some may be minor and you may be dismissive but like my last submission into this thread, some are major differences… That’s a lot of items by the way… A lot of time and effort gone down the drain. But what’s creators and users time to Roblox nowadays, when you have large corporations partnering with them… Pennies to the minute. I had some hope, but that’s all ruined.
But time and effort put aside, are we creators going to at least get an option for our monetary compensation or Robux returned for the items we can no longer use/sell/publish? We can at least reuse this to FIX or ALTER our LC to the new algorithm. Although pretences lifted, who really has the motivation to do so after facing the fiasco not once but multiple times.
Look I know you engineers are also doing your job to make it a better environment for consumers/users as well as creators (the latter is highly debatable looking at this). But please take some consideration to at least show some sort of thought towards those affected negatively…
And hey, I can see now why maybe most of your retaining loyal player base has remained back in the early classic Roblox days and why you can’t seem to shake off R6 Character models. YES. the ones that don’t support animations or layered clothing… I will be back to using R6, if I engage at all. Most games especially the very popular ones which retain most of your CCU player base only support R6 and classic models anyway…
Someone had to say it!

Maybe I’ll finally consider learning Blender just so that I can design a custom body which preserves the old fitting of my clothes. And then I’ll have to pay even more to finally upload it… just so that I can never use any other LC items ever again.
Ive learnt quite a bit of blender myself, and making character bodies is no walk in the park, let alone making a custom one that will fix the LC issues caused by this update. And who knows, the upcoming update with automated moderation on UGC they intend to release later on might make these types of creations invalid and waste all your time and effort once again. This type of consideration or lack there of, doesn’t sit well with me or the trust I have in Roblox and its creator environment. (It feels like a toxic workplace).
I have talked to every single friend that has gotten the update, and none of them who use layered clothing enjoy this update at all. None out of 9 of my friends I talk to who use layered clothing like this update. Yeah, I didn’t mistype and did say none of them. I actually misspelled ‘none’ while typing it, lol. None of my friends either don’t use layered clothing or have their layered clothing avatars ruined. Plenty of them came to me about it as they thought it was a bug, and were disappointed it was a feature.
If Roblox doesn’t revert this update, then I guess that I will be avoiding layered clothing like the plague, as I don’t think I will see it as a valid customizable option anymore. Classic clothing does all I need now, and layered clothing is just an expensive gimmick. I am at least glad to save images of the avatars that were ruined before they got destroyed, so that I can remember when Roblox ruined them. There should be more customization for avatars than less. If people don’t want to use the extra customization, then they don’t have to. They will be there if they want to use them.
I do keep saying that Roblox only does this to please investors, but I do think that it’s true; no matter how much staff say they don’t. I’ve seen Roblox saying they want to listen to the community more, and… where is it? Where did it go? I thought Roblox was finally considering the community for once before releasing updates that may break existing content, even visually. Guess they forgot about that… or just never planned that to begin with.
I hope that Roblox gets their s**t together. Roblox shouldn’t dictate what our characters should look like unless it disrupts everyone’s experience very negatively, like the rampant inappropriate accessories on the platform. Has anyone at Roblox ever heard of the saying “Don’t fix what is not broken”? Probably not.
Maybe try changing “Upgrading Roblox” to “Updating Roblox” when there is a new version, because this is not an upgrade and is a huge downgrade
