those games only present mild violence, no romantic themes or alcohol references.
My guess is that it refers to romantic stories, like 2 NPCs getting together and holding hands. Not sure if NPC kissing is allowed though
This is an update Iāve been excited about for so long. Finally, the freedom to appeal to an older audience.
Iām curious to see how Roblox will handle the chat filter as well.
They do not, and Iām sure Robloxās argument is just because an account is 13+ years old, doesnāt mean the user is 13+ years old, siblings share accounts.
Realistically, people trade accounts despite Robloxās rules on it.
Etc.
Though that being said thereās nothing stopping people trading ID verified accounts eitherā¦
I personally think (and is completely my own view) that this is a great step towards the future of being able to develop Roblox games based on the demographics of the older people. I am a bit concerned about things like fake IDās but at the same time at least there is methods being put in place to verify that the user is really over the age of 17 (unlike some games that donāt need you to verify just tick a box confirming).
I canāt wait until we can upload more adult content where the user has to be 18+ or something such as this because this would expand the people who want to play even more to the older people. Another possible concern is will games that need ID verification even have people playing because I know quite a lot of people who donāt really like to verify there age with ID for safety concerns which I think is completely fair but this would then reduce the player count in games.
As an 18+ user on this platform, I have been on the platform for more than five years and I am incredibly excited to see that Roblox has finally started to appeal to an older demographic. I can see why the required ID scan might be bothersome to some people but it is understandable in order to protect young users from seeing inappropriate content.
In addition, I praise the incremental approach Roblox is taking on this challenging feature, and I also appreciate the fact that sexual content will remain banned on the platform. However, I do have some concerns regarding this feature including the potential it might be too restrictive (e.g. games that are perfectly fine for 13-16 year olds such as shooter games with little to no blood could be unfairly restricted to 17+) I am also confused as to why it is 17+ instead of 18+, as 18 is the age of majority in most countries.
Otherwise, keep up the great work, Roblox! I am excited to see this platform grow.
No doubt age verification is crucial for this to work.
Itās a very well-implemented feature, but like all updates and new tools, there are still areas for improvement.
This addition of features is good for the experience to have more diversity to the +17 audience that seeks to escape the common games we have on Roblox today.
I think THIS IS COMPLETLY unnecessaryā¦
Really? Why prevent gambling if a license verification is required anyways?
Gambling is a HUGE market and can bring many new people to the platform.
I think in a CONTROLLED environment, this could a huge addition to the platform.
I think the decision to exclude it from the adult grouping is a poor decision and should be thought over again.
Just my opinion.
May we know why? This is a huge player and developer base.
Itās probably some corporate word salad about how they want to distance themselves from reality because āThE mEtAvErSeā
these countries dont want 17+ games not really strict
Would it be possible to provide us with a number of users on the platform who already have an ID verified and are 17+? I want to know if it would even be worth it to create a game like thisā¦
Not really. Iām from Turkey and we have a lot of 18+ games playable. They donāt ask for ID verification so Iām confused why Roblox does this and still doesnāt allow.
I dont really know what roblox is thinking but its david bazuki or something.
The worst thing is, as a dev, I wonāt even be able to work on 17+ games because of this country restriction rule.
That doesnāt work very well in a platform like Roblox where the main audience is made out of children. Age verification is necessary. Even though the way they have done it is not very good, it still stops children from accessing these games.
I donāt mind this change. It gives more freedom and more possibilities to the developers. Though I can kinda also understand the upset people that donāt want romantic elements on Roblox. They donāt want kids accidentally stumbling upon a dating game where the possibility of a creepy dude encountering them is high.
However, it expands the possibilities, allows the developers to create more games fitting for older audiences, and more. Robloxās main audience might be kids, but that doesnāt mean it will have to stay family-friendly always.
If Roblox does not store your country information from your ID, then you can easily use a VPN to create such games.
Iām pretty sure that a multi billionaire company which requires ID verification for this wonāt get fooled by VPNs.
Revert this, I am 16 almost 17, I donāt have an ID, I play a lot of these game of which was mentioned in here, but i will be gatekept from playing because my parents have yet to get me an ID.
Not to mention privacy concerns about sharing IDs.
