Good, but the fear is still there.
That’s great, and I am happy that works for you. /srs
Open-source is great and it’s nice for developers to give free gifts to the community, but what about developers trying to create products?
Paying developers in fun money is fine if the developer is creating a freebie plugin whilst relying on donations, but forcing devs to rely on donations to garner any profit, regardless of whether the plugin is made for community or for profit, says a lot about this platform.
(I apologize if my thoughts came off as strange or anything, I find face-to-face conversation easier than writing forum posts ~le sigh~)
I also believed that plugins should be free and that developers shouldn’t need to charge users to use their plugins, until I read up on how the developer of MoonAnimator felt screwed over a few years ago and how even after winning the bloxys they were still not making enough profit, to the point where they had to start charging users for their plugin.
I really hope this update helps plugin developers who actually rely on plugins for profit, but I guess we’ll find out soon enough
The value of Robux is just too arbitrary. The value depends on how you obtained it and then whoever you give it to, the value to them varies depending on what they want to do with it.
400 robux is $5.00 to somebody, and $0.70 to someone else.
I do a lot of open-source work, including my plugins, and while donations can work, more people actively refuse to donate than not. While not a plugin, I had a probably >6-figure per year game use Nexus VR Character Model, and refused to donate anything after giving them special support. People are not going to work on super robust tools without being able to amoritze the development cost through others buying it.
This feels like a really bad iddea for me. Almost all my customers are only able to pay trough Robux purchases, forcing me to sell in USD is basically depriving me of all my customers.
I’m already getting ready to lose all my income because of this definitely not well thought update…
This is just getting rid of all the potential customers we had, and surely will make our situation well worse.
There needs to be a Robux option for this. The problem with that though is that someone should be able to buy a $2 plugin for $2 or $2 worth of purchased robux(store cards/etc) and/or $2 worth of devex-able Robux(which is obtained by means other than buying it and is valued less).
Figure that one out and you win!
Now when will in game transactions stop having a 30% cut on top of a 35% conversion rate = 75.5% cut? It’s embarrassing to be a roblox dev because it is the most exploited I have ever been in my life, it’s more embarrassing than when I was working fast food.
So uh, Would it be possible to revert purchasing plugins back to robux till purchasing it with real currency is completely fixed and possible?
I’m honestly stuck here currently because there’s this plugin I’m trying to get since it would make UIConstraints and such easier to do, However because the feature isn’t implemented completely I cannot buy any paid plugin because all it will say is “Purchasing coming soon, Stay tuned!”
people are for real going to be paying 18 dollars for 10 lines of code now. roblox I think you should start surverys before working on updates cause you never seem to know what we need
Also, may I just respond and say that data breach was never really confirmed with any proof and therefore we can consider it fake?
I decided to get real data for anybody wondering.
Don’t use this in the future, 452 is a small minority of developers. It’s just a chart to help anybody wondering.
Rely on donations? I have never seen that get far for me unfortunately.
If pay what you want was built in directly, then theoretically that would help but again it’s not like it really matters that much anyways considering I can’t sell…
I would rather make one thousand emirati dirhams off of plugins because buying robux was banned in my country, but you can use the plugin marketplace in my country though
I doubt much people will donate.
Roblox I think that what you guys are doing by releasing this update is just crazy I don’t know but you guys act like you don’t have the analytics of your player base or act like you don’t know that 70%+ of your player base are kids who generally don’t have bank accounts I for myself don’t freaking have a bank account yet and im 19…Someone talked about Inflation in the USA I know it’s basically nothing to spend a few bucks but yall should know that ain’t the same story everywhere literlly…You guys are just promoting big companys and studios on the platform instead of promoting young and future devs like literally you guys should make this optional cause this is a sh****** update literally and you guys are guys… You know what I give up yall at this point are just a bunch of capitalist no offence to the Engineers and stuff but I really hope Roblox takes time to review this even though I know you guys won’t causse it’s ROBLOX but yh…God I miss the old Roblox
If a plugin is just 10 lines of code why don’t you code it yourself and save it as a local plugin? I’m working on the toughest, most complicated 500 lines of code (plugin) in my life and oh boy I don’t think I’ll make them free, and if I do I’ll probably have to rely on donations which I doubt will be enough
edit: + the GUI design, buttons, sliders, etc
honestly they should just allow robux for plugins under the 5$ price floor, usd is good but many plugins are worth 3$ at most and robux would serve this purpose
It should be even higher, you only buy a plugin 1 time, and it lasts forever, usually with updates, if 5 dollars for a one-time purchase is too much for you then either you won’t use this plugin that much, or it is useless for your needs.
Roblox developers should look at the prices of Blender and other software plugins, especially the actually useful ones…
In my personal opinion, this is a horrible update. I would be fine with this update if you let robux be an optional payment option. Other than that, this sucks.
But it wont make any more profit,
Even if they have made this change, you still have to be 18 to purchase them?? so you’ve automatically removed 60% of your potential customer base, effectively earning no less profit then you did before???
