In my current version of Studio, my custom grass material isn’t working as it previously did. I’ve included (in the Private message for Staff) my current project version (where the issue is happening) and a version from 1/9/2025 (where the issue is not happening).
The MaterialVarient and TerrainDetails are the same in both versions. The ColorMap, RoughnessMap, and NormalMap are also the exact same. The Material Overrides under Material Service for Grass is correctly set to the CutstomGrassMaterial. This is where the Material can be found in the Explorer:
To see the issue for yourself, open the attached files of my project. Notice that The one from 1/9/2025 has a material that works perfectly fine:
It turns out they had a different LightingStyle, but this didn’t happen when I first changed LightingStyle on the 21st of January. Is this issue of textures not working the same intentional?
The issue (seperate from THIS thread issue) is described better here:
Now, on January 21st when I opened my Project, no matter the LightingStyle, I believe the Terrain looked the exact same. My project before the Unified Lighting Update was ShadowMap. My Terrain looked fine then too. Why would the Terrain look different now if I set the things to match ShadowMap?
Thank you for checking it!
We’re aware of this issue and it’s in our bug tracking system. We will keep you posted as soon as we have more information about it.
Generally, I’ve been working on my game far less due to many factors -like heavier college coursework and the common decline in motivation in game dev when finishing a project. I say this because one of those factors is my lack of creative visual control of my project.
I open Roblox Studio and am reminded that I can’t have my game look how I want when it previously was fine. Respectfully, this is not only annoying, but demotivating when much of my project revolves around the visuals carrying the value and marketing of the game.
