Custom Rig Difficulty (Body Colors)

Hey there! I’m trying to apply body colors onto a custom rig I’ve made, but I cannot seem to figure out how to make it apply to certain objects that on are the mesh. The reason I saw certain objects is because my rig comes with modeled clothing, which in my game I want to be customizable!

So with that being said, how do I make the body colors only apply to the limbs, and not the clothing?

The issue here is when I inserted body colors inside the rig, only the head took the color, and nothing else did.

Below is a screenshot of what I mean.
The blue represents what is coloring correctly. The green represents what needs to be body colors. And the red is what I don’t want to be colored. Of course, under each piece of clothing, there is a limb that needs to be colored.

Here is how I have it set up.

So far, I have tried rearranging the way each piece clothing and it’s corresponding limb. So far, I have not found a solution as to why it will not color correct. I have not seen anyone who has posted about this in the past (as far as I know).

Adding to this, there are some parts of this that I don’t need to be color changeable, like the sandals on the feet. How would I arrange these as well?

Anyone know what I could do to fix this? Would it be easier to have a system where people pick body colors in-game themselves, and if so, would I need to set it up differently?

The way I think this would work, though I personally have not had this issue, is either removing the clothing from the rig (not deleting) and coloring the entire rig at once. Afterwards, color the clothing, then place it back into the rig. Another way you could do this is delete the clothing, put it into where you modeled it, and texture the model from there using, say, a color grid.

The way I do this when I am making a rig is I have the clothing just in the rig, not in the actual limb’s model, but outside of this.

Like this, then what I do is I weld the clothing to the limb afterward so that the colors aren’t matching together and they stay together when moving.

nice design though

Oh, I will try this then. I’ll let you know if it works.

Also make sure to check if the body parts have a texture ID. If so, that means they’re most likely sharing a UV map with all of the parts of the model and you may need to create your own textures
