Thank you Roblox, best thing I’ve heard today.
while comments in the recent years have been filled with spam, i can’t help but feel a little sad. there were a lot of old comments i would sometimes come across from 2012 or older of people just being silly and it was kinda like looking into a time machine
It used to be fun to find some asset id, and then just say hello.
RIP, at least no more having to look at spam comments.
i dont really mind this update, such a bummer though… ill miss this feature
This should of been removed a long time ago.
I think instead of comments on marketplace items, we should have the creator store rating system on marketplace items. (adding likes/dislikes and reviews to marketplace items)
RIP market place comments, you will be missed
Good decision to be honest.
I hate the spam bots and it can cause the youth to be gullible of potential scams.
I think this is good, but goodbye comments. :__)
I know that comments are incredibly flawed in their current state and see the reasoning behind their removal, but I can’t help feel annoyed at Roblox once again removing a feature while dangling a replacement that might not even materialize. It’s been two years since the Audio Update, and we haven’t received any news about “long term plans for asset privacy”. For the user ads that groups depended on, they were just removed and we were told to “stay tuned”. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s just so irritating for Roblox to remove a feature and announce a replacement that is unlikely to arrive (if at all) in a timely manner.
The “/e free” comments did not leave a good start, This has been going in since maybe like Late 2019 or Early 2020
This is a good idea to prevent those ‘/e free’ spammers from tricking kids, Is this finally a good feature Roblox did?
But yes, I will miss this feature aswell, Sometimes not. Who knows
Probably, But this might only affect Marketplace Items, Explains the title
So… My guess is maybe not?
I feel like this was necessary, since those “/e free” comments were getting really obnoxious (along with other types of spammers too).
We have this one list item on the roadmap under Collaborate more efficiently as a team. If you catch any AMA’s about this you could ask about it.
Honestly I couldn’t had said it better myself. The marketplace comments have become a hub for low quality spam leading to the feature being useless for users. The only time I’ve decided to look at comments is to see the spam and low quality messages. Not because I was actually trying to find feedback on said marketplace accessory/item.
Hopefully a feature that competently achieves the original intent/goal of marketplace items is added as soon as possible.
Waybackmachine .com exists for a reason heck i look at roblox 2009 with that thing. If u want the nostalgia here’s ur answer. This is an UNDERSTOOD decision although im not the biggest fan of removing anything unless absolutely neccesary.
Finally. No more /e free or “Ew furry item cringe!” or “T H I S I S A W E I R D G L I T C H”
Keeping an archive of comments around after they’ve been deprecated is definitely a technical issue, especially for a website as large as Roblox’s. Clutter and unnecessary databases are not ideal and are prone to breaking after a while if the site were to undergo an update. Why should Roblox engineers have to spend time making sure that comments are preserved through the years when they can just simply get rid of it and never have to worry about them?
This is why the Wayback Machine exists.
I agree that the comments section needs a massive overhaul. It rarely gets used, and when it is used, it’s not usually in a constructive manner.
Nice to hear that there is a new system on its way.
Some ideas:
The replacement feedback system should be accessible on the mobile, web, creator and studio versions of the platform. Developers do use the mobile app (even if infrequently), so it would be good to see developer features returned to the mobile app in general. Additionally, I don’t think there was any way of viewing/interacting with asset reviews via the toolbox in studio.
Feedback could be asked for in post. There’s no way of reviewing a functional asset until its been inserted and tested in the game. As such, feedback could be requested/encouraged after the item has been tested.
It may be useful to keep a long term list of what assets are or are not in a game where developers can select an uploader’s profile, see other assets from the same creator or review/report the assets currently in their game. This could be done either by hidden ids or a new CreditsTag instance (would function similar to a stringValue that store a creator’s name, as well as their role in the making the asset and maybe a reference to the asset id). A model inserted from toolbox could contain a credits tag (or multiple if developed by multiple creators) that would allow roblox to keep track of inserted models and help developers give credits for what they use, as well as also be able to locate and review the original asset.
rip comments
I guess this means we can’t talk on the roblox website outside of groups, chat, and messages anymore…
Sad to see this go, I feel like there could of been a better way to go about this though.
