This week we are sharing the story of an amazing art designer Radiill, one of the developers of Player Unboxing Simulator.
Radiill has confessed to work on art related projects daily, just because they enjoy it. They are not working on a major project of their own but is engaged on a commissioned work for someone else which has them completely busy.
Behind every amazing artist, there is an inspiration. In the case of Radiill, they found development inspiration in Roblox avatars. They were amazed by the infinite variations of avatar looks that one can find in Roblox and the creativity that each one of them exhibits. Radiill told us that the possibility of mixing so many assets allows people to express their personality and create unique avatars that can represent their identity. Seeing the way that Roblox developers used those tools to create unique worlds for players to enjoy was a huge source of inspiration for them.
After hearing them speak with such passion about the Roblox community, we just had to ask what they loved the most about our community. Their response was firm and consistent; creativity- there are people who can create amazing art and and buildings, but Radiill suggested that when you put all of this together, you create an even more amazing piece of art that allows people to immerse themselves in new worlds and enjoy playing the games they join.
Roblox has, to some degree, impacted the life of every single person that develops for this platform. Radiill shared that they were mostly influenced because, as English is their second language, they were able to learn and practice on Roblox. They also told us that it motivated them to pursue an art career and stay inspired and focused on their passion.
Radiill had some advice to share with all of us; never give up and don’t look down on yourself. This is the mentality that they try to maintain every day, but as they explained, some of us tend to compare ourselves to others and we tend to be extremely critical about ourselves. The fact that there are people with more skills or knowledge than us does not mean that we cannot become as good or even better- we need to prepare and dedicate time to those things for which we wish to be the very best. Another important piece of advice that they shared is that we should not be afraid to ask people questions about things that we do not understand.
In an attempt to know them better, we asked which developers helped them in their early developer days and they instantly pointed out @BOF and told us the story behind it. @barbixdradiil made fan art of one of BOF’s games, and BOF shared their art around and later introduced them to friends that they still have contact with today. They feel very thankful to BOF for helping and pushing them. Radiill told us that other developers that have helped them more recently are @Skilled_On and @AbsoluteRadiance.
As for the future, Radiill hopes to be involved in more Roblox related projects. They want to make badges, thumbnails, animations for trailers, game passes, game icons, and more art related content, because they genuinely enjoy it.
Preparing to conclude the interview, we asked Radiill two more things: to define themself as a developer in a single quote and why they chose Roblox as their main platform to develop. The first question was answered with the phrase “Do what makes you happy and strive for better", which certainly reflects their mindset and the notions of doing what you genuinely enjoy and push yourself to become even better every day.
As for the second question, they explained that there are a ton of people that will help you become a better developer. They said the Roblox community is always willing to warmly welcome new developers and most of the experienced individuals will happily help you get through your learning days. In addition, Radiill made a reference to a popular Roblox motto “Be anything, build anything”, saying that the sense of freedom and being able to do anything they could think of was something that made them fall in love with Roblox and keeps them passionate to this day.
