DevKit Plugin Devlog #1 - Custom Explorer

Introduction

Hello everyone!
I am working on a new plugin, one which will include many developer tools and necessities and aiming to provide a seamless and streamlined experience.
Some developer tools such as:

• UI design tools
• Building tools
• General purpose tools

This plugin will also integrate well with my visual scripting plugin, BlockLua
So, beginner-friendliness is a priority (but more “pro-level” ideas are ALSO WELCOME!)

The DevKit explorer

Let me ask you the most important question right away:

Are there any features you are missing from the built-in explorer? What would you like seeing added?

Did any ideas popped into your head? Please let me know in the replies, because DevKit will have a custom explorer.
As a matter fact, it’s the only thing it has at the moment. I have been working on it for the past few days and I would like to show you the results.

COMPARISON & SHOWCASE

Here are side-by-side comparisons of the Built-in explorer VS DevKit Explorer:

It has a more minimal style, the UI is supposed to match with the previously mentioned plugin, BlockLua, but it looks super clean in itself as well IMO

So what is the difference?

CONCLUSION

Loving the custom icons! I like the outline design you went for here and I hope to use it soon!

Maybe some easily customizable icons would be cool? Using uploaded decals to customize your own icons for the explorer would be pretty neat and quick!

Some new ideas

I’ve been thinking about what to add, and I got some ideas. I’d love to hear your feedback!

• colored folders
• pin instances: ability to pin certain instances for quick access. Still thinking about the UI part
• advanced search: search only in selection, search by class name, search only children/descendants
• decal previews: an option to show the decal itself, instead of the decal icon in the explorer. It would look cool I think?

Maybe a close all heiarchies keybind or button? So then a person could declutter all the opened heiarchies!

I was thinking of changing class icons, individual instance changing would be cool but I would hardly see myself using it unfortunately…
