Discord quicklink on your profile

A few things:

  1. Discord is not a social network like Twitter, YouTube or even Roblox itself. It’s an instant messaging service with features including file sharing and voice calling. That alone sounds dangerous for most Robloxians.

  2. Discord has nowhere near as many security measures as Roblox’s whitelisted sites in terms of moderation and user security. Here, you’d have to contact their support in order to report an issue. Their Abuse Support is open only to issues regarding urgent legal attention (Contacting Abuse Support). All other reports or issues would go through their regular customer support. They do, however, have the option to set a channel as NSFW (this is optional) and the ability to block users. Most (if not all) of the moderation you’d see on a Discord server is coming from the server owners/moderators, who are regular users just like you.

In my opinion, unless Discord was to show any sort of responsibility for what its users do on their user-made, private, independent servers, I believe that Discord is too dangerous for Roblox.

There is a certain level of trust involved. If I post a twitter link or set my twitter profile on Roblox, there is an expectation that what I’ve linked to does not include NSFW, gore, graphic swearing or the likes. It is the same with Discord.

It is actually harder to find Discords which allow NSFW content than twitter, because on Discord it’s a lot harder to join a NSFW server, because you need to find a link for it on the web, rather than type in “twitter NSFW”

Edit: Just had to change up my posts because I saw this wasn’t a private forum :scream_cat:

Twitter and Discord are so different that it would be ridiculous to compare them with anything different from the way they moderate content.
Let’s not confuse user’s actions from what the user is unwillingly exposed to. Discord offers no protection against a user suddenly receiving a message with disturbing content. I am a victim of this and that is one reason why I am against this feature suggestion (until things change).
Twitter has a feature that allows users not to see sensitive content, and that’s just one of the strict measures put in place to protect its users.

Yeah, this sucks that people would do that, and having also had this, I agree IT’S NOT FUN!!. On Discord you can block DMs from people who aren’t your friends, just like Twitter though.

You’re also right there isn’t a universal standard of moderation on Discord, but rather it’s up to the owners of the server to make sure there is nothing graphic or such. But the vast vast majority of Roblox discord servers meet high levels of moderation, and those that don’t but are linked to on Roblox should have moderation action taken against them (just like if I link to NSFW things on twitter)

There’s this idea that hopefully gets implemented someday, but of course that won’t help if servers (disable or) don’t enable it. On the other hand, can’t you DM anyone on Twitter?

That looks like a cool idea, but it won’t change my opinion on the matter because it’s not enough (alone).

My two cents:
One of the issues with Discord in this regard is the lack of global moderation and the inability to report things. Harassment, inappropriate images, and the like run rampant - and are allowed to do so. It falls on the server staff to moderate things, and that’s not always reliable.

There’s also the fact that Roblox has no official presence on Discord. It’s not social media, as @Ysko said - it’s instant messaging.

This would be akin to supporting Skype quicklinks, or even AIM/Yahoo messenger if we went back a decade, which makes significantly less sense than the social media sites already offered.

Again, just my personal opinion. I’m not involved in making calls on suggestions like these.

This Is the worst defense you can possibly use when talking about not allowing discord to be whitelisted

You must not know much about how discords settings work then? Discord has features/settings in-place to protect users from NSFW content, and to block DMs from users who you aren’t friends with.

Examples

They have plans to add a report button to the desktop version, and you can currently email them reports, provided you have the message ID.

If anything, Twitter is more unsafe to kids. There is less restrictions, and anyone can view anything for the most part, yes there are privacy options on there, but it’s not too much different than discord.

Discord is still a new platform, only a few years old, and they are implementing safety features constantly. They have things in place currently to help prevent things from happening, but there is only so much you can do to “protect” kids.

Not sure what you mean by that. Am I wrong? None of its protection features are forced upon server owners or underage users. DMs are a different matter as the user takes those settings into their own hands.

I didn’t say Discord didn’t have features that helped server owners and moderators protect their users themselves.

If Discord was to implement more security for the users, then maybe my opinion will change in the future. For now, it’s too dangerous.

Nor are twitters…?
Everything on Discord/Twitter/Facebook is solely up to how the user wants it. Nothing is really forced.

Discord has taken down servers before for inappropriate content… so they are actively moderating, you need to report it though. Discord does not review chats/chat logs unless you report specific messages.

I’m going to assume that you’ve read my replies to this thread, so I won’t repeat myself again.
What I’m saying is that Discord really needs a more solid moderation structure (that comes from Discord, not the server owners), as it isn’t just one community of people, but various independent communities that all run separately (with different rules). Again, Discord is not like Twitter, Roblox, YouTube or any other social network in structure.
I’d like to also repeat that the way you can report things (only the most extreme situations can be reported to dedicated support) on Discord is ridiculous.
Kids are not safe at all on Discord. I don’t see how I can make that clearer.

While yes, the report features and such aren’t easy to access right now. I still can’t agree and stand behind this statement.
Kids for the most part are safe on Discord. It is 100% up to what they do on the platform, that dictates their safety.

No it isn’t. I’ve witnessed countless cases of regular text channels in servers being spammed with NSFW pictures, viruses, phishing links, etc. And this is the last time I’m going to quote myself:

Please read the rest of my replies in order to see my views on this suggestion, because I’m no longer going to quote/repeat myself.

cinderdeer did actually prove this to be false though? Unsure why you’d quote that in particular lol

By “message” I am not referring to a private message, but a message they receive in a server channel (text or voice, it doesn’t matter).

Oh right. So, most channels disable images expect in the memes channel because otherwise, yeah it gets raided. This is the same with twitter though, people can post or RT what ever they like. Whether it be NSFW images or swearing.

People can actually get in trouble for posting NSFW images on Twitter if they don’t have their account flagged as potentially positing such content.

Additionally, the only way you really find that stuff on Twitter is by actively seeking it out, or following somebody else who does. It can’t be forced on you like you seem to claim, unless of course you open your DMs to everyone.

If you want some actual data, I have been sent inappropriate images on Discord 6 times since the beginning of September. I’ve never been sent an inappropriate image through Twitter DMs. My accounts for both are very easy to find and my messages are open to everyone.

Furthermore, Discord is not a social media platform. It’s a chat service. It is a chat service that currently has no report feature. Maybe things would be different and Discord would be a more reasonable option if such a feature is added, but until then, I’m of the mind that it’s not a kid-friendly service - and so is Discord, hence requiring users to be 13+.

Luckily they’re working on a Report feature, although I have no idea how it’ll work

Unless they removed it, they have already implemented it on mobile. I saw it on Canary a few weeks ago, but it would seem like they rolled back the report feature. I do know it’s implemented if you have developer access. So it’s definitely in the works and most likely almost finished.

As far as meeting roblox’s safety requirements, twitter isn’t exactly meeting it in my view, there is this one person who sort of threatened me on twitter, and i reported it, and it still hasn’t been deleted after like 2 months. This persons entire history is literally all NSFW sort of tweets. Though i am sure a lot of discord servers are not clean, and roblox wouldn’t want to allow those to be linked, but even so, twitter can be linked and can have nasty things on it.

I would link the tweet, but it’s a public section.
