Diving into Generative AI

Basically, that’s totally correct.

It’s not good news when the new Head of Studio Engineering is decked-out on stuff straight from “the future of Roblox” which is just so awesome and cool and perfect but we’re just not getting it.

You may not be sure, but I am: The only scripters left will be the ones who have already made a proper career out of this. 95% of the Talent Hub, those little kids you see just starting out… No chances for them.

It will be accessible directly in Studio, it will generate new materials and they will be PBR.

So there is no point in scripting anymore?

I love the material addition though. Is this going to be trained on its own AI Model or will it be based upon Chat GTP or other such AI Model’s.

Yeahhhh! Do we have an estimated timeline for it? Theres already an FFlag made for it but the button doesn’t pull up anything.

-edit
and will we be able to create materials during runtime?

I hear your concerns and I agree with you on the data used to train AI should be collected only with consent or be freely available datasets (ala LAION for images).

Thank you! We appreciate your encouragement.

Welcome, Stef!

People who are going to use ai without knowledge already use free models or would have used free model.
Yeah I said it earlier.

“Making” a bad game vs “making” a bad game, what’s the difference.

And tbh you will learn more by telling what you want to the ai with the good vocabulary than just picking it up from the marketplace, plus better quality bad game ig.

For example:
Students who used to just Ctrl+c Wikipedia now use chatGPT, that’s the same thing.

Will this be a free tool, or will we have to pay to use generative AI? AI models are relatively expensive to run so I am curious about the economics of this.

As a scripter, I feel like this can be beneficial and detrimental to our programmer’s job. Allow me to explain why based on my knowledge about generative AI (if I have stated anything wrong, please correct me.):

Firstly, generative AI can be a tremendous help when it comes to solving and testing bugs in our codes. With it, I don’t have to necessarily spend hours just to bug test one script when I could’ve use those precious times to create and test out other scripts. In fact, it could also help us to optimize and give suggestions on how we can create better and organized scripts in the future.

But on the other hand, generative AI can be detrimental to our jobs if people abuse it. For example, a developer without prior knowledge or experiences of scripting can literally just use generative AI to create all the scripts and systems needed in their game. As a result, they wouldn’t hire scripters and pay them a huge sum of robux to create scripts for them in their game. This makes our job useless and could potentially take over all other jobs in Roblox development.

Ayo, this is kinda cool, and will definitely help developers learn.

Will this be able to help developers fix bugs?

And is the roadmap going to be released? I kinda want to see it (Others too)

It’s really great to hear that! Just to be clear, could you explicitly confirm that Roblox hasn’t and won’t be training this AI on our games without consent?

Further, if it is eventually trained on existing games, can we assume it will be opt-in and not opt-out?

interesting. as someone who despises coding, I will try this out as soon as it becomes available. look forward to it. is there a timeline for when it should be available in beta?

First, you didn’t actually respond to the argument I presented, but I’ll excuse because I really didn’t know I could look at only your posts (you can see I don’t post on the DevForum often).

“This is a bad update, okay, thsi amy en helpful for materials, but because thsi will be used for scripting, Programmers will be overall be worth less, as people have an AI do things for them, and thsi si gonna make less people try and learn, as they have an AI taht does things for them, and when they will have to debug it they will be like: “What si thsi thing?” as they don’t know how to scritp, so please, focus more on learning tools instead of tools to make our job easier, as our job is already easier than most platforms, so don’t make everything even more easier, but instead focus on learning tools”

AI won’t be able to do this now and I believe they won’t be able to do it for a while, and when it can we would have bigger issues. Also, the purpose of tools is to make our jobs easier. That’s what a tool is suppose to do. Imagine screwing a nail manually instead of using a screwdriver!

To address another argument you made, garbage assets and games are everywhere and have always existed and AI will not make it better or worse than it already is. AI is also very inefficient at generating stuff and its easier to just pump out the garbage yourself. We have not seen a flood of low quality information after ChatGPT, we have not seen a flood of malicious deepfakes after they became widely available, and we have not seen a flood of AI generated images after Midjourney and Stable Diffusion. The future of garbage is human.

i know this is pretty unrealistic but it’d be really cool if the dataset and source code could be FOSS lol

Yes, but as already said, this makes everything too easy, you know there actually people taht take this seriously and take this as a job? Right? Well, I don’t know what these people would say, as they are gonna update all of thsi and make it able to create medium-complex scripts then what they’d studio ed for years is useless, and as free models aren’t safe it’s why they are used less, but with thsi you can just do:
“AI, check this model and eliminate anything that is a virus” or ask it to create what you want, thsi will make Low-effort Games be even more normal, and as already said:

Goodbye…

This is something probably all of us would like to hear an answer to. I know for fact I would be plenty upset if the work I’ve put into scripting or friend’s work put into modeling was used to train an AI without consent.

AICO fflags are interesting, a bit of a shame it rejects me whenever I try to do anything with it

I’ll let this cook in the oven for a bit

How long until ROBLOX is publishing their own line of generative AI games?
