Do "pricing threads" belong in support sections?

This is a simple question.

I have seen a great many threads in Building Support and Art Design Support which simply ask how much something they made should sell for. Not much else is mentioned in the threads. I’d list examples, but I’m pretty sure you can venture to look at the sections yourself for those.

I don’t remember these types of threads becoming too popular until very recently, and now it seems that people are joining the DevForum, seeing them as the norm, and following suit; in short time, the support forums have become dominated with small “How should I price my x?” threads and I feel like the support forums are losing their quality. They feel a lot like the (now forbidden) “rate 1/10” threads which only prompted small responses. These types of threads also only encourage responses along the lines of “I would buy it for 500 R$” etc.

It is @Aotrou 's post here which initially made me think asking for prices was a bad thing when I first started foruming - hence my confusion.

Anyway – this is a simple question, not a rant as many other posts in this forum are. :upside_down_face: Are pricing threads meant to exist elsewhere or do they belong in these sections? Thing is I did message a DevRel person about it and received no response, so I think Forum Feedback is the only place to mention it.

It’s an understandable idea for those who want to be confident that their work meets the ideals of the developer community and thus asks the community for their feedback regarding such a pricing structure.

I think the better outcome is to have a section dedicated to business, not ro-business groups and doing actual business on Roblox with the idea of giving that kind of support. Rather than placing them across other sections and clogging them up.

For those who do actively post there, I would love to see your side specifically on this issue.
Then for the wider community, here’s a poll to try and get the base idea.

  • Dedicated section to business
  • Keep where they are
  • Remove them
  • Other

Yes, exactly! This is what I was thinking but I thought suggesting it might have seemed a bit brash lol. A dedicated section to business would be much more intuitive than having them fill up technical subforums.

Is there a way to make a Discourse poll with a slider rather than a set of values?

If so, we could just make a pinned topic “Price my build/art/…” and then everyone can put a poll like that, then we’d be done with it.

Number posts are the closest we got, but it may be work visiting meta.discourse.org and asking there.

Development is not my primary strength, but knowledge can be extracted from #development-support threads. In current times, the threads seen from #development-support are simply displays of developmental products (Art Support and Building Support). This trendy procedure does not ensure education in development, and for this very reason I have muted every #development-support sub-category.

The targeted category is losing its touch; disliked trends are frequently appearing.

THE FOLLOWING INPUT IS COMPLETELY MY PERSONAL OPINION

A separate category / sub-category to shelter this technique would do no good. Developmental displays can have price distinguished by:

  • Matching: viewing portfolios that showcase works similar to your’s by quality, then viewing the prices
  • Mental Instinct: take into consideration how experienced you are, the time spent on the graphics design, and the quality of the graphics design

Expertly put. The Support sections have definitely taken an extreme downfall in their quality which hasn’t been properly addressed. I feel as though I should also mute the sections. I used to be very active on the DevForum but due to the lack of quality have neglected to post here for some time.

I don’t think something like that should have its own category since there aren’t that many of those posts and it’s not really off-topic. Having a “rate/price my build(s)” post may be a better idea.

Would posting an in-depth pricing guide help? I’ve been thinking of writing one but was concerned that it’d be too wordy and nobody it’s targetting (new/younger devs) would bother reading it.

While just that would be true, it would include more than just that. I want to see an issue the community finds and find the best path which isn’t just a band aid to sort just that.

A business support sub-category would mean that a range business specific content would be covered. After all, Roblox is a gaming platform which many users who will become full-time and for some may need help in that area. It would not be just for pricing threads but everything business related.

I think that would help at least for a global approach, in the it’s not going to stop because even after reading a guide, there may still be questions or unsureness as a result; that’s if they read it.

I completely support a mega thread for these posts. They’re a huge nuisance, especially if I’m trying to get help and my thread gets buried by 10 threads asking about pricing.
