Dragger QoL Improvements [Beta]

Nope, I attempted it while printing keycodes the user was inputting and holding CTRL + 1-5 does nothing.

I’m quite curious how come Roblox Studio can highlight invisible part while I can’t. Any explanation how it work?

Highlighting invisible parts is a more expensive effect which is fine in Studio but not for low power client devices.

Mechanically it works by using the ReservedId property on the highlight (however even if you could set this in-experience it wouldn’t do anything): Highlight | Roblox API Reference

Summoning handles seems to have broken in a recent update. Barely moving the cursor drags the part to a random location.

I tried running Studio with plugins disabled and toggling the camera controls beta but none of these changed anything.

Yup thats happening to me and a friend too where it snaps it to somewhere else completely, especially on models

Try now.
I’ve put it back.

While fixing another bug (move & scale handles were not tracking long skinny objects correctly)I unintentionally broke summoning of move handles.

I’ll fix this part too and try again.

It works now. Thank you so much!

yup seems to be working for me now tyty!

Error when having a part(s) selected and pressing tab over terrain.

Update 8/8/2024

  • When you have both Move and Snap To Part snapping turned on they now work independently on each axis, so you can grid snap on one axis while snapping to center on another.

  • Slightly improved snapping with WedgeParts.

  • Fixed a couple of internal framework errors during interactions with community plugins.

  • We have a solution for snapping shortcuts coming next week. TL;DR: Shift goes back to disabling all snapping but toggling the two snapping options will be default-bound to Shift + X and Shift + C to allow quick swapping.

  • If no new issues come up we’re looking to move to a full rollout shortly thereafter.

Can confirm this still happens with the new dragger. F3X doesn’t have this problem

Repro:

  1. create a part ~50,000 studs away
  2. create a 2nd part
  3. try to align the 2nd part against the 1st part
  4. there is a 0.002 gap between the parts regardless of dragging or moving part 2

you guys are being such a pain to work with, i have to get used to these new hotkeys again after getting muscle memory to work with the existing ones. all the time.

it would be better if you finally unlocked the shortcuts so that we can modify them instead of being forced to conform to hardcoded standards that will still get changed over time

Hey what happened to holding down ALT to disable snapping!!! Is it SHIFT now with the latest update? WHY DO YOU CHANGE HOTKEYS WHILE PEOPLE ARE WORKING ON GAMES?

I’m just getting used to the NEW auto+snapping and using combinations of SHIFT+CTRL+ALT etc to build/disable snapping and now all of a sudden you change the hotkeys? Is there a way to get the previous ones back as it will take a while to learn the new hotkeys?

Now when I pan the camera around while holding down SHIFT (to slow down the camera) to get into tight corners I’m also turning off SNAP now?

there’s no way to change them rn, all we can do is ask :sob:

Update Aug 30 2024

We’ve updated the shortcuts for a final time. The new shortcuts are the result of doing in depth surveys with ~50 beta users and we think they’re the best we can do.

Apologies for having to do this twice, we know it’s painful to have shortcuts changed around on you. But we really want to make sure we go out of beta with the best shortcut layout which we have available, and given the negative reaction to the first shortcut update, sticking with that layout was clearly not an option.

The final shortcuts:

  • Scale tool, scale uniformly: Becomes hold Alt
  • Scale tool, scale from center: Remains hold Ctrl
  • All tools, disable snapping: Becomes hold Shift
  • Toggle grid snapping: Default keybinding of Shift+X
  • Toggle part snapping: Default keybinding of Shift+C

The thinking behind these choices:

  • Snapping has been updated to work cleanly enough with both grid snapping and part snapping turned on that you usually don’t have to decide between the two, only whether you want snapping or not.

  • When you don’t want snapping and just want precision, holding shift disables snapping and offers you that precision.

  • In the edge cases where you do need only one kind of snap, reaching up for the snapping toggles in the ribbon is annoying. For this we build upon the muscle memory of “shift = snapping control” slightly, adding shift + x/c as permanent snapping toggles.

  • Having to change the Shift = Scale Uniformly with the Scale tool to Alt is unfortunate, but from developer feedback Shift is the most convenient shortcut, and we think using it for something which generalizes across all the tools is the best choice.

With these changes released we’ll be rolling the beta out to 100% of users by default soon, stay tuned. Thanks for your patience.
