Dynamic Skies Are Getting Cloudy

It would be cool if we can have smart cloud / water physics, for example volume.

If you run into a cloud with high speed then it will shift a little due to the wind and volume.

If you decide to add rain then when it occurs you should be able to turn on smart water which is automatically filled terrain that basically makes water ponds at lower places and dissipates over time.

Unreal Engine? Sorry, I only know Roblox Studio!
I can’t wait to see where this goes.

That looks so good, can’t wait!

That does sound cool. Hopefully they make that a future update?

Exactly! Its like future is bright. Thats been slowly getting released in separate phases.
Phase 3 is soon to be released, phase 2.5 was released 6 months ago, and phase 2 was released at the beginning of this year. Phase 1 was released I believe early or mid 2019.

This seems like it will be useful update for many of the nature and showcase games.

Also, throwback to the original Roblox skybox “clouds”:

Because its not final phase. And they are going to improve it in above 1 phase. Which it will not be pixel and there will be improvements. Even bug fixes. Did you read this all of topic message?

The staff were given an entire year to figure this out when they knew it wasn’t going to be ready during the last RDC event. I’m happy that this is in the works, but this does not look remotely close to phase 1a. It looks like it needs to stay in the oven more.

As @DevBuckette says:

This is just phase 1a. Phase 1a is basically just the barebones of clouds. I think they released this just to test performance. Phase 1a is no where near the finished product. What we see at RDC is the finished product. This is how the clouds would look like at phase 3

You see how different it looks now? It’s because phase 1a is the most barebones of clouds it isn’t near the finished product like we see at RDC it could be cause they wanted to test performance or cause phase 3 is very buggy and unstable. Phase 3 will look like what we see at RDC.

Question: When this week can we expect a release for 1a?

Soon this week. It won’t probably be long before they release it for beta.

I generally don’t like the shape of the clouds. What I would like is a a new cloud “particle” instance. This may be to much to ask, however it would allow us to also use our own noisemaps, or just have like the cloud particle instance be a optimized particle for clouds, so us developers with big open worlds can have complete control on skies, and coverage across the map. (like storms in one section, sunny in another). Not only that, we can also make custom cloud shapes and generation allowing them not only to be used for clouds, but also other things. Imagine the possibilities.

Right now its impossible to have performant clouds using billboard guis or particle emitters.

Clouds. Not weather… although they did mention precipitation. Most likely not to happen

Probably not unfortunately, re-rendering something of that scale is probably going to fry lower end pcs

They had 4 years to make the clouds and correct mistakes, now will we have to wait another year to see the clouds better?

we prob wont wait another year since he wants us to wait a week for beta clouds then fully improved clouds that will make you happy. like RDC 2020 announced nice clouds which will be here if its in final phase aswell. so we don’t have to wait that another year.

Well I think if I’m not sure but after 1 year in 2016. the development of nice clouds were stopped until month ago or year ago. so I think that’s why it looked like this and they are going to improve it in next phase such as improvements and bug fixes. then final phase again which you might want like you said.

Is this out yet? I don’t see anything in the beta options yet in studio.

I’d rather not have this released to the clients yet, and only a studio beta until all of the phase 1 is done. then it will be in the clients. I don’t want to see games right now with this kind of clouds.
