i see this was added to beta but it dues not work…
it does, just in studio. if you have it disabled, enable it and restart studio, if it’s enabled then search up cloud in lighting and press the arrow, that should show the cloud property.
its not working in studio, and theres no settings for it in lighting, and i have it turned on in beta settings.
You have to add it like you would add a sky into the lighting. Look for something called “Clouds”
100+ users here have pointed out that the bottom of clouds is a bit dark and I agree. even i want it to be fully white clouds and it would look cool and better! But I think there would not be a bit dark on clouds if its phase 1b or phase 1c.
Wha- How’d that happen? Seems interesting.
He put clouds in lighting, not in workspace.
Didn’t happen to me, weird…
I tried doing that and it didn’t get that weird bug. Also the clouds can work everywhere no matter where you put it basically.
Make so we can fly into clouds that will be great for aviasimulators!
Some properties I would love to see:
- Color (preferably
ColorSequence
) - Speed (speed of clouds)
- Direction (direction where the clouds are moving)
- Seed (seed of clouds)
- Contrast (how much contrast there is between cloud, and not cloud)
- Altitude (what Y position the clouds are at)
- Height (how high the clouds get, so cumulonimbus clouds can exist)
other stuff:
- The ability to stack
Clouds
Instances. Connecting with theAltitude
andContrast
property I suggested, we could make a layer of cirrus clouds really high, and puffy clouds in “normal” altitude
Other than that, this is a good start!
Going through clouds will not be supported in phase 1 but if you look at the roadmap for the clouds you will see it will eventually support it
- Phase 1a has Clouds integrate with the Sky object, and optionally act in composition with the Atmosphere object.
- Phase 1b is in progress now and aims to gather performance stats, bugs reports, and feature requests from developers, iterating based on that feedback.
- Phase 1c will offer an alternative for completely physically based Clouds and Atmosphere without a need for the Sky object’s skybox cubemap textures, aiming towards better ultimate realism. Current Sky controls will remain for various skybox use cases.
What i did was go SUPER high up, and set the density to the max. the higher you go the higher the clouds go.
If they minimized the radius where the sun rays get blocked. then it would look pretty realistic.
These are literally just layered shoddy noise textures! It’s not volumetric as promised, and there are quite a few bugs
Apparently when you go high enough you get inside the clouds but when you go even higher the clouds start getting far away again
There’s literally only two properties and it’s way too limited. Roblox has been working on this for well over a year now and it took them two months more than they promised to get the first public release out! They have such a vast team and such a higher budget and the outcome is disappointing to say the least. The clouds just look incredibly ugly and for such a large game made, in an era where some games have literally gotten perfect collision, fluid, and volumetric systems, the clouds that we have now are childish and definitely not what I expected. They don’t even cast shadows or act like actual volume scattering clouds. What a bummer, if you ask me.
To add on, it’s embarrassing how undetailed these noise textures are.
You can literally see the poorly interpolated pixels in the clouds. @Darkzonian, I understand this is only the first phase, but they have had plenty of free time to work on this and make at least the first release somewhat acceptable.
Another bug I’ve found was that sunrays don’t work when there are clouds, no matter the density. And I expected the sunrays to bleed out the clouds like it would do in real life.
They said there would be more phases but we are still stuck with Phase 1a. When will it release?
@iSyriux They did promise volumetric clouds, but they never said about supporting SunRays. They must be working on many updates they are putting less work on this update. Let’s just see what happens then.
Don’t worry. I know what’s gonna happen here. We are not stuck with the first phase. just don’t ask that question. Another phase is coming as an first released version I think, Lets see what happens just like you said. good luck.
@iSyriux Keep waiting. You know what’s gonna happen. just like Andrei said.
Also I can really tell that this is coming as another released phase verison… due to this.
I would recommend everyone that want clouds update in roblox to wait for this.
How long is that going to take? Another few months?
Roblox is seriously terrible with timing…
