I wish they could do an update overhaul for shadows and water looks/system and even an update for reflections
They did do an update for shadows and reflections. A water update would be wonderful though.
I’d rather a water update, it’ll be so amazing!! and being able to use grass decoration on parts
That’s a great idea! The water overhaul would be a very good update, since we’ve had the same water for 6+ years. Using grass decoration on parts would also be super useful since not everyone wants to use terrain, plus why not?
I don’t have access to the Feature Requests category, so is there someone out there that can create a Request for atleast one of them?
Is it possible to change the speed of the clouds?
I can’t find any property for the cloud speed, so I guess there isn’t.
A water appearance/physics update would be interesting!
Not sure if this is possible, but I’ve been also thinking of how Roblox could update the clouds and shadow technology to allow for non-opaque shadows. For example, we could have things like cloud shadows on the ground when the sun’s view is blocked out by clouds. The way shadows dynamically adjust with clouds enabled is already very cool, though.
Alot of features are missing from the engine, so don’t expect something as big as that from roblox.
That’s true. Hopefully, other features will come to fruition as well soon.
Pretty sure that’s because they’re meant to be used with atmospheres and proper lighting, for me, the clouds look pretty good so my assumption is that you’re purposefully trying to make them look bad to crap all over the feature or just haven’t played around with them enough.
Example of how clouds look like if you actually use them properly so nobody listens to this guy:
as you can see, the clouds blend in really nicely with the rest of the atmosphere and adds this really nice extra detail, coupled with them moving, it makes the environment feel more “alive”
Sorry for being agressive, but I really like these.
Well, let me tell you something, I would really love to use Atmosphere, but I don’t like it that much either because of the fact it loads by chunk. If you change its color, the player will be able to see how it changes chunk by chunk, which means you can’t even tween it because it would look horrible, kinda like a disco place.
Atmosphere has many limitations; you can’t even set a focus radius just like we do with the Fog in the Lighting’s properties, instead everything is just covered with it no matter how you set it up.
That said, if you have a static atmosphere, it could work out for you, but there are people that won’t use it because the limitations the atmosphere has and because is also something that not everyone will use.
Also, this is how it looks with atmosphere in a Baseplate, clouds do indeed still look blurry, you can notice it more when you are playing:
You also have to remember all games are different and won’t use the same style as you. Clouds look terrible if they are used with a sky that has 0 clouds in it like the one I posted.
Also, not everyone has the same exact opinion.
The example you provided has an insanely thick atmosphere, lots of cloud cover, and over the top color correction. Not everyone is looking to make a game that takes place in a sandstorm.
i agree with @focasds cloud quality is kinda sub par and doesnt look really good, especially on lower graphics. Even higher graphics suffer frok a dithering effect on clouds near the horizion and clouds don’t look as crisp as I’d like them too.
Hi.
I just read all of your feedback and inputs on atmosphere, I do have to say that it depends on what kind of lighting you’ve got going on in your project, and what kind of objects you’re using.
For me, the atmosphere is more than enough, we have more controls over it than we have with fog. With fog, we only have the fog start and end which to you might mean a lot to have control over.
With atmosphere, we have more control than we do with fog, more options, and more to mess around. Now it really depends on how you decide to go from here, atmosphere is tricky to pull… it often depends on how large your workspace is, I mean the map.
For me, I’ve managed to make a pretty good atmosphere for one of my projects, ‘The Voyage’ won’t get too much into it… but here’s how I’ve managed to make clouds look decently nice in my project.
I’ve applied a skybox that already comes with clouds, then used the “Clouds” to overlay on it, this way it made it look more nicer. In my opinion at least.
Reminder: The clouds are indeed a 1000% BETA still. This is just Clouds V2, we still have the V3 which I’m hoping we get some news about in the upcoming RDC2022. Which will include having players to fly through clouds, possibly different types of looking clouds like cartoony and such.
But no just because this particular feature is no longer on “Beta-features” that doesn’t exactly mean it’s fully done and out of BETA. It’s still BETA but public to use for all… if that makes sense.
Already exists, just extremely low quality and unnoticable.
When did this roll out? Auto shadow softening and sunlight dimming? This is so cool!
Still waiting. Did roblox staffs abandon this? almost been 2 years
wdym? it released almost a year ago
They only released Phase 1… The most basic version they could have left it in.
Phase 2 of this would have included being able to fly above the clouds as well more customization abilities to how clouds form and the shapes. Flying above the clouds (not really required for my type of games) would have been an absolute breakthrough for aviation games or any games that involves aircraft vehicles.
Is this still being worked on? I was really hyped for this, I really would appreciate if we could get any official update regarding this feature.
Cant let this topic close we must keep it active!
