Educational Game Designs

Hey Developers!

I recently started thinking, as the Roblox platform grows more and more, will some Developers start to pump out more games based towards learning, its known fact that every year the Roblox player demographic grows towards a younger audiences, and as has been shown at the time of this topic being written, the world seems to transition to online learning more and more.

So I pose this question to developers, while great games such as Lua Learning do exist, which game concept would be educational towards children in the < 13 age demographic while still remaining a fun game to play? More specifically, what game concept would would most players enjoy playing, while learning something valuable?

Very interesting question imnotRummy! Though ROBLOX does occasionally host events such as “Hour of Code” and various others I believe a younger age demographic would much enjoy a multiple choice type of game in a trivia format rather than a full-blown coding course.

I disagree, I believe that the younger age demographic would benefit a lot more from actual coding courses when it comes to genuinely learning and understanding Lua rather than trivia questions which may give snippets of how to do certain things in Lua but don’t teach the entire language.

This is particularly me speaking from personal experience as in the past there have existed websites with formats such as that to teach Lua.

While I see your point, I believe that a majority of players within the younger demographic would enjoy a game, within the younger age demographic, which is why I pointed out Lua Learning as a great example.

Very interesting point of view, I shall keep that in mind!

Well in that case, keep your point clear. It seems you are attempting to rather spark an interest in younger developers rather than genuinely teach them the skills to develop, if that is your goal I believe that this idea could go pretty far and I wish you the best of luck with it.

I really like the idea of giving people that opportunity to learn skills, whether it be something they want to do in their future or basic life skills such as cooking, what you’ve said in your topic is the Main reason I actually created my own Restaurant group, due to the unfortunate events right now I wanted to distract some of my friends and younger family so I decided to make a game where they can cook for customers, unlock new recipes and hopefully more in the future. My younger cousin actually attempted one of the dishes and it was awful alright? I guess, but the feeling of someone learning something from a thing that you made and wanting to try it is really rewarding on both parties

I think if you’re targeting a younger age cooking is a good path to go down, I’ve had pretty good success with it, it’s super interactive and there are so many different parts to explore in it

Hey @ScytheSlayin , that seems like an interesting idea, but I’m thinking of something different, an actual gameplay concept where younger players take something educational off of their experience playing the game. Your museum project does seem cool though.

Yeah, read some of the replies in the topic. They talk about how to actual make a game educational, fun and enjoying at the same time.
