“Egg Hunt” 2021 Metaverse Event Opportunity!

I agree with you with some things.

Yes it should be doable on most devices (that’s why they are saying at least two devices on the form, the two most selected devices I presume will be PC and phone).
Yes there should be a hub, a bit like what Ready Player Two did.

The pros:
Personally, I thought the eggs looked really nice.
I quite liked how it was in different games, only if the compatibility issue could be fixed for future egg hunts.

I applied for my game to be featured, but our theme will actually be egg hunt related.
My biggest fear with this is that Roblox is going too far on the dev hunts, let me explain.
So this year, we had an egg hunt, but it was not what many people were expecting. It was done lazy, objectives were boring, it was just an advertisement for many games I feel like. Take Bad Business for example, nothing new kill someone and you get an egg, something you do all the time. Same with Murder, kill someone with the egg and you get it. I wish their were requirements for what could be put in the game. I respect all Roblox employees and I’m stating my opinion so it can be heard. Many people can agree with me on this. While I hate to be critical to a game I love, you make it hard to like the game sometimes. Given this statement I have the upmost respect to all you Dev Relations Employees. I feel that like the Star Creators are the ones who are ruining the event, I thought Tower Defense Simulator was good this year and to see a content creator go on a stream and say that it was boring. Star Creators should not get way more respect than devs.

PLEASE excuse my negativity here but…
“This notorious, seasonal event has been cherished by our community since its inception in 2008.”

…and overall disliked since 2019. Come on, man.

Why this format again? It’s not exactly what I’d call particularly fun, considering that there’s usually an overabundance of games at the cost of task quality. I’m just hoping that maybe, MAYBE this will have a small saving graces such as having a lobby and a smaller amount of games with them having multiple eggs inside them.

I’m sincerely hope this is the last year you guys pull this, it’s just getting annoying at this point.

Excited for the event :3 Hope to get, in, good luck to all applicants, happy holidays :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

mmm if they just organize it well, this version of the egg hunt can go perfectly fine and well

I think complaints about certain dev hunt games monetizing getting the egg quicker are justified; however, with the rest of the complaints, it’s about time to mind your own business.

What is the ultimate goal of developers who applied to create the egg hunt games of the past?
I can tell you it wasn’t so they could feel good about having made “the best egg hunt”, feeling good doesn’t pay bills. Their goal was to increase their connections and make it onto a team that was going places.

The reality is developers want to work on their own games, and Roblox recognizes that, and is giving a platform for game communities to earn a special hat made in the Roblox catalog. Before UGC, this was a big deal, as it was the only way to get a hat themed off of your game.

My team’s games have participated in the 2019 and 2020 egg hunt. Luckily neither one of my team’s games were mentioned in a negative light by anyone here, I guess because if you do something right - or at least not wrong - nobody bats an eye.

My goal with applying to the egg hunt the past 2 years was to give my group’s own game community the opportunity to win an official Roblox hat that is themed from the games. Nobody is forcing you to play all the games, mind your own business in your own community and a lot of the negativity goes away.

I think so. It would need active players or just a lot of visits to get accepted.

My other problem with these dev hunts is they just aren’t fun. You have to learn how to play 45+ games, and you never will play these games again. Please make the games follow the criteria of the theme. I found it lame that some games had nothing new, no new maps, no new controls/mechanics. Take Egg Hunt 2018 for example, I regard it as the greatest one I have played. The map was built by hand, there was no luck involved, hub made total sense to you. That was what I call an Egg Hunt. And let’s be honest, half of the games they picked were beyond boring for 2020’s egg hunt.

I’m pretty disappointed. I expected better this year after all of the backlashes from the previous 2 years.

I also thought Fifteam was going to make 2021? Welp, I guess we are doing this all over again…

There’s two sides of the coin people are seeing here.

Developers are seeing a chance to get exposure on their games and to grow their community / get a custom item for their community.

Players are seeing another dev hunt, which generally has a bad reputation around it due the lack of a coherent story or buggy games.

I swear to the devil himself.
if the scrambler item is where you hit it in a egg hunt game and it reveals the egg location I will cry.

Based on last years event, I don’t think the dev hunts are a good idea, unless multiple eggs are hidden in one game, and it is made sure that it’s not too hard. The old hunts were better and the staff at roblox needs to take a hint.

I think you have very compelling points and I agree about 75% of what you are saying. Roblox is trying to give platform to newcomer devs that want to share their game, and I think that’s very nice for them to consider because of how hard it is to get noticed on the front page.

Though, even if you do have great points, there is still a core issue at the structure of this event. (And I’m not talking about everybody on this thread complaining about “devhunts.”) The structure of this event is fundamentally broken, because there is little incentive for the player to stay in a game for too long. That incentive is getting eggs.

Watching videos from the previous egg hunts, many youtubers have expressed how they probably wouldn’t revisit those game again. Not because they’re bad or anything, but because they visited those games out of obligation. Now if this was 3 or 5 games this wouldn’t be a problem. But to server hop on 25 games (give or take) to get your egg sounds like a very big chore.

And even if your game is able to get noticed from this event, it’ll only be for a short amount of then you’ll lose a significant amount of traffic.

Nobody The majority doesn’t want to play your game because they like it. They are playing it to get an egg and that’s it. (Though, there are rare games that actually play it off well, but the majority doesn’t do great.)

I’d argue further to say that pre-established communities within games have a good chance in this event while news ones probably wouldn’t.

I’m genuinely not excited for this, considering devhunts are overused. It would be a good way to expose smaller games to a bigger chunk of the community, however it would be much more fun if you were to do an actual egg hunt, with an interesting story rather then a bunch of games.
That’s just my opinion on the egg hunt though.

The fact that this is getting worst each year makes this tradition less fun with the dev hunt, some games are Pay-To-Win and some games have lots and I mean LOTS OF BUGS still, Roblox makes random guesses at what games they had to pick. Developer relations doesn’t even play, they straight up GUESS on what games they will pick. Some games are fun and awesome and some are dull and boring. This is Roblox, a multi-billion company that doesn’t understand what community criticism is and doing random stuff that both communities (Developers and players) don’t even like. Sorry if I made some mods/ developer relations mad on this post. This doesn’t fit what ROBLOX is all about, ROBLOX is all about having fun and a good time (like some examples, Rec room, CORE, VR chat, ect.). If a mod or a developer relations person is reading this, think twice before you do another egg hunt like this.

I don’t like the idea of the dev hunt especially 2020 dev hunt hopefully 2021 will be better.

Great, you ruined the 2021 egg hunt too, can’t get any worse

Hopefully, this year isn’t like 2019 and 2020 and has more quality control. Not saying all the games had boring quests but some did. If Roblox still hasn’t learned that most of the community doesn’t like dev hunts they can try to prove to us that dev hunts can be good. Another problem is the last 2 hunts had too many games. I think we can unfortunately say that normal egg hunts are dead

I agree with this.
Literally the only devhunt I only sort of liked was 2015 because it didn’t have many games. Sure, it had no hub, but there weren’t a BAZILLION games to get ONE egg in. Not to mention learning mechanics for every game you probably will never come back to. Sheesh!

But even then, devhunts as a WHOLE are a bad choice. Having a unique game adds to the sense of adventure and wonder. I love exploring new, exciting worlds! Devhunts took the magic out of the egg hunt.

This is an extreme let down. As many other users have said, the old style was much better. I may apply because why not but please bring back the old style. 2020 has been a rough year, help make 2021 a somewhat good year at least.
