I’m pretty disappointed. I expected better this year after all of the backlashes from the previous 2 years.
I also thought Fifteam was going to make 2021? Welp, I guess we are doing this all over again…

There’s two sides of the coin people are seeing here.
Developers are seeing a chance to get exposure on their games and to grow their community / get a custom item for their community.
Players are seeing another dev hunt, which generally has a bad reputation around it due the lack of a coherent story or buggy games.
I swear to the devil himself.
if the scrambler item is where you hit it in a egg hunt game and it reveals the egg location I will cry.
Based on last years event, I don’t think the dev hunts are a good idea, unless multiple eggs are hidden in one game, and it is made sure that it’s not too hard. The old hunts were better and the staff at roblox needs to take a hint.
I think you have very compelling points and I agree about 75% of what you are saying. Roblox is trying to give platform to newcomer devs that want to share their game, and I think that’s very nice for them to consider because of how hard it is to get noticed on the front page.
Though, even if you do have great points, there is still a core issue at the structure of this event. (And I’m not talking about everybody on this thread complaining about “devhunts.”) The structure of this event is fundamentally broken, because there is little incentive for the player to stay in a game for too long. That incentive is getting eggs.
Watching videos from the previous egg hunts, many youtubers have expressed how they probably wouldn’t revisit those game again. Not because they’re bad or anything, but because they visited those games out of obligation. Now if this was 3 or 5 games this wouldn’t be a problem. But to server hop on 25 games (give or take) to get your egg sounds like a very big chore.
And even if your game is able to get noticed from this event, it’ll only be for a short amount of then you’ll lose a significant amount of traffic.
Nobody The majority doesn’t want to play your game because they like it. They are playing it to get an egg and that’s it. (Though, there are rare games that actually play it off well, but the majority doesn’t do great.)
I’d argue further to say that pre-established communities within games have a good chance in this event while news ones probably wouldn’t.
I’m genuinely not excited for this, considering devhunts are overused. It would be a good way to expose smaller games to a bigger chunk of the community, however it would be much more fun if you were to do an actual egg hunt, with an interesting story rather then a bunch of games.
That’s just my opinion on the egg hunt though.
The fact that this is getting worst each year makes this tradition less fun with the dev hunt, some games are Pay-To-Win and some games have lots and I mean LOTS OF BUGS still, Roblox makes random guesses at what games they had to pick. Developer relations doesn’t even play, they straight up GUESS on what games they will pick. Some games are fun and awesome and some are dull and boring. This is Roblox, a multi-billion company that doesn’t understand what community criticism is and doing random stuff that both communities (Developers and players) don’t even like. Sorry if I made some mods/ developer relations mad on this post. This doesn’t fit what ROBLOX is all about, ROBLOX is all about having fun and a good time (like some examples, Rec room, CORE, VR chat, ect.). If a mod or a developer relations person is reading this, think twice before you do another egg hunt like this.
I don’t like the idea of the dev hunt especially 2020 dev hunt hopefully 2021 will be better.
Great, you ruined the 2021 egg hunt too, can’t get any worse
Hopefully, this year isn’t like 2019 and 2020 and has more quality control. Not saying all the games had boring quests but some did. If Roblox still hasn’t learned that most of the community doesn’t like dev hunts they can try to prove to us that dev hunts can be good. Another problem is the last 2 hunts had too many games. I think we can unfortunately say that normal egg hunts are dead
I agree with this.
Literally the only devhunt I only sort of liked was 2015 because it didn’t have many games. Sure, it had no hub, but there weren’t a BAZILLION games to get ONE egg in. Not to mention learning mechanics for every game you probably will never come back to. Sheesh!
But even then, devhunts as a WHOLE are a bad choice. Having a unique game adds to the sense of adventure and wonder. I love exploring new, exciting worlds! Devhunts took the magic out of the egg hunt.
This is an extreme let down. As many other users have said, the old style was much better. I may apply because why not but please bring back the old style. 2020 has been a rough year, help make 2021 a somewhat good year at least.
What are the chances of my game getting picked?
EH 2021 is gonna need to have some sort of comeback from the previous years.
Please, stop doing dev hunts. Every year that has had dev hunts has had the egg hunts be a disaster.
Dev hunts are not fun to play, and they can sometimes mess up games during the egg hunts. Why don’t you make more egg hunts like 2018’s? That one was really fun and loved by the community. You need to stop trying to use egg hunts to improve game discovery, as it’s just annoying for the players. If you want better game discovery, just bring back genre searching, it was useful for game discovery.
The 2018 egg hunt and egg hunts like it are INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE and take alot of time to create.
Roblox probably dont think they cant find qualified developers who are not already working on something else to create a egg hunt. (Which for the most part is true.)
This goes for everyone else complaining. (@JuztHoney @xxoptimexx @Mrdabup123456 @KrimsonDark etc etc)
In case you did not know, roblox is currently running at a loss in revenue for 2020.
Egg hunts like the 2018 egg hunt are also bad for all developers EXCEPT for those working on the main game due to a loss in players. Roblox probably does not want that.
The 2019 egg hunt format CAN work if roblox had more quality control for the games as well as a overall better hub and removing 5 or so games and putting those eggs in the hub.
As unfortunate as it is, roblox wants to improve the developers experience more then the players experience since without developers, there are no players.
Heres a article if you are interested on the net losses.
Roblox also makes a heck of alot more money from devhunts compared to egg hunts.
@TheAmazeman has great points, roblox please keep doing DevHunts but have more quality control and have a few less games. Thats all.
I do agree that egg hunts are better for the player, but devhunts are better for developers.
(Also I really did not enjoy the 2018 egg hunt, it was incredibly boring for me.)
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
Yes, it most likely takes more to make ones like 2018’s, but the payoff is much better. I have tried to appreciate devhunts before, but I could never be successful at doing that, whereas I instantly loved 2018’s. More effort means a better product. There are other factors for this profit loss that you mention (please leave where you got that info in a later post, I am genuinely interested to see the info on that) are most likely unrelated to egg hunts. Devhunts don’t help new games, as there is just an obligation to play them.
As someone who used to not be developing stuff on Roblox, I can very much say that I never played any game featured in devhunts after I was done with them, unless I already was playing them. Devhunts are tedious, and they don’t help the developers featured.
Thanks for linking where you got your info, that will help me figure out!
Lets agree to disagree, have an amazing day! (Whelp, now Roblox has the money to do better ones.)
Always glad to hear the Egg Hunt make a come back! This is a wonderful opportunity for developers here who have their games at least in a playable state. If your game can manage it, I probably recommend going for it.
I’ve already submitted my game, and will continue to be anxious as to what will come in the very near future!
I really want to thank Roblox for giving us developers and the community this opportunity once-more, it’s a super fun and spectacular tradition where the community comes together to celebrate Easter!
Please, do not, do dev hunts. It’s too much of a hassle jumping to different games.
2020 was pretty messy. Learn from that.
Tower of Defense was good?? Are you sure? It took me hours to find the egg, there wasn’t even an indication that egg hunt was there in place. And the quest was damn ridiculous, for an event egg, you need 4 people in order to get it, which wasn’t possible since most completed. Then, there were few glitches, which made me do it again and again, like when I finished the boss, I didn’t recieve the badge nor egg.
