I’m Jack, I’m 19 - and a university student in the UK, as a little summer project I started working on a simulator to replicate the role of an emergency dispatcher, where you can answer calls, dispatch units to calls, determine who needs help the fastest, and handle major incidents, etc, it’s called Emergency Dispatch Simulator (original, I know!)
I wanted some feedback on my initial logic (please, ignore the UI as much as you can, I am not proficient in UI design at all, which will be incredibly obvious to you when you join!) - I will try and get somebody else to help me with the UI, or learn to do it myself, if I can find the time and energy to do that haha.
The map is also only a temporary placeholder, until I can get to coding a dynamic generation system for the map, where I’m eventually hoping to be able to allow users to “regenerate” the map as they wish and it spawns new locations / landmarks where calls can spawn (for example, a public protest outside of city hall), etc…
I’m specifically interested in how people find the progression and levelling up system, and if I could make it more intuitive in any way? Please also see attached a link to the changelog, which in each version I do give a small roadmap for future updates and known bugs, so before suggesting, I would highly appreciate it if you could check in there before, but I’m open to any / all suggestions!
Thanks for the feedback. That is 100% in the works, just trying to determine the best way to explain it to new players, for future reference when people are testing, the calls will appear in the top right, when you click on it, you’ll zoom into the “incident”, then you can select from the closest units in the bottom right box, the units will automatically filter by the closest unit, but thank you
Hey! I played your game and with the new update no calls come through! I have tried leaving and rejoining but nothing is happening it is very annoying. I love the game but now I can’t play it
Sorry to hear that, I’ll have a look now, as I’m aware of an issue with some player’s DataStores messing up a little, did you complete the tutorial, if so, when you load into the game, do you see your default units on the sidebar, any errors when you go into the F9 console?
I’ve wiped your datastore, just to retest - and granted you £10,000 cash in game as an apology
Hey Jack, great game! The only thing I would recommend is being able to unassign a unit from a call, and dispatch them to a new one. Also, to ensure accuracy, send fire units to medical calls as well, and once EMS is on scene, then they can clear. That’s what happens at least in Canada, and I assume other countries as well.
