Error on Export Selection from Studio

  • What are you attempting to achieve? Export a selection from Studio to my PC

  • What is the issue? I get an error message saying Failed to export obj, Please try again or contact support if the problem persists.

I’ve already successfully exported some of my stuff so I don’t understand why it wont work now. It appears that it only works intermittently ?
Is it the the luck of the draw or am doing something wrong ? I mean all I do is right click on my mouse after I’ve highlighted in Explorer what I am trying to export and then chose the export selection option and bam… I get the error message.

  • What solutions have you tried so far? I exited out of Studio and came back in and tried again but the error persists.

Whats the part count of your model? At least assuming it is a model since it’s giving an error about an object. Also if it is a model from another world in Roblox Studio, you can do a copy-paste from a model. Seriously, do Copy in the world that has the model and paste in the second world.

Yes, that is much easier. But studio gets weird glitches, so if you’re importing to blender or something I’d say restart studio.

EDIT: Just noticed you said you exited studio

Well blender is obviously very different, you’re forced to import when it comes to new meshes.
But it doesn’t look like she’s trying to import a mesh from blender since she didn’t mention a mesh or blender, and it could be a model with a large part count, but we don’t know that, so good idea for mentioning that bro.

I mean exporting anything from roblox glitches my studio out, so I tend not to do that unless necessary.

Importing anything to your studio glitches the computer?! Oh man I’d believe then that the code running the import/export is either outdated or faulty, I haven’t done any imports/exports yet, so I don’t really know what it’s like.

I mean dragging the size of any widget in my studio window breaks studio, so it might just be me.
Pretty much freezes computer.

Yes, that’s what I’m trying to say.
This topic should probably be in bug reports instead of help and feedback since, it’s a bug, but what if we try to compress the size of the file being imported.

I can’t post in bug reports yet, I went there first, It isn’t open for me so :stuck_out_tongue:

It is one part with two Screen Gui’s on it. I made the item, it is an Accessory I made.

I want to save my work on my PC, the ability exists so its not just an easy answer to say copy it from one world to the next.

I built this in Studio. I did not use or intend to use Blender.

XD’nt, yeah that makes sense, well kudos for getting the message out there.

You saved it to your PC? Hmm which format does studio accept, maybe that can be the issue

I didn’t save it to my PC. Is Exporting it the same as Save to File ?

No actually. Save to file creates .rbxm files. Exporting is .obj.

No exporting is directly moving the file from the start position to the end position, while save to file is moving the file from the start position then a middle ground.

I am confused. Middle ground? What do you mean by that.

Well it isn’t reaching the end goal of where the file needs to be at right? Just an expression bro.

Ok so the rbxm is like a data file and the obj is the actual object

My object is a part not a model

Huh. Then use the export. Are you exporting to external software, or just studio based.
