A storm is approaching.
Sword-fighting games that use the linked sword will fall.
Millions must make their games compliant to this change.
Listen to your community.
A very real example of this is whatâs happened in the UK. A very popular high street has recently disappeared due to their failing to listen to both Team Members and the community. Wilko has ceased to exist as a result of the greedy higher-ups. In comparison this is going the exact same way.
Please do actual case studies on things like this. There is no way in hell this is good for the community.
Additionally, as a query -
If the Developer were to edit a UGC such as textures or geometry therefore making it different to the actual Marketplace item, does that not negate the rule as the item is technically not that of the one in the catalog?
We do. We truly do. However, those same out-of-touch fossils know how to make money off of the oblivious people on the platform (AKA most users <13), so if anything, theyâre actually making a good decision, corporate-wise!
Roblox is going to see to it that they make the metaverse. Weâve tried to convince them that it isnât a good idea, yet they donât seem to want to listen, as theyâre too infatuated with the idea of the future.
Iâm currently making a game where you have to survive and kill zombies with your friends.
These are what my zombies currently look like
This is what Roblox wants my zombies to look like
For a platform that wants to make their âexperiencesâ look realistic and stuff, this is just stupid.
Something tells me that we definitely wonât be kept up to date and roblox will just quietly roll this outâŚ
Theyâve established that pattern already. I feel like itâd be really stupid to roll it out quietly because developers will have no time to adapt if they are not aware of this change.
We wouldnât have had any time to adapt with their original plan, Roblox couldnât care less if we are put on a super small time restraint.
Youâre lucky I was off the platform for a couple of weeks, otherwise I wouldâve gone completely ballistic and instantly left the platform out of pure frustration. This wouldâve been a change that would make John Riccitiello and the rest of the Unity board go âwell at least we didnât screw up THAT badlyâ
I didnât think this was possible. I genuinely didnât. This single change not only being considered but even planned to happen is proof enough that the future of making games on Roblox is not a bright one.
This change wouldâve obliterated at least 5 of my games. And the strangest part of that is that I am LUCKY to only lose that much. Some people can have their entire catalog of games + their literal livelihoods obliterated with a change like this.
To Roblox: Iâm glad this change has been postponed, but thatâs not good enough. Get rid of it in its entirety. It is completely unsalvageable, end of story. If the change is implemented in even half of its capacity, it would be enough for many a developer to leave this platform.
As for fellow developers: Stop being boxed in by Roblox! If you do not think leaving Roblox isnât what you want to do right now, at least have a plan B in case you eventually do. I recommend Godot, but other engines can work, just experiment and find something that works for you. Besides Unity, for obvious reasons.
Extra rant: Roblox going public has been a literal disaster for the community. Before weâd be unlucky to get two or even three truly controversial updates a year. Now itâs a monthly, sometimes even biweekly occurrence. Itâs funny how we were mad about stuff like Builder Club being renamed to Premium, now Iâd love to see updates like that happen again if it meant updates like THESE stopped happening.
Just the fact that a few dozen people can (and almost did) obliterate the careers of hundreds, no, thousands of people is ridiculous
âheh⌠hehe Hahahehe- thatâs a good one! hahahahehehaha haHA. REAL NICE!â - me when roblox says postpone instead of cancel
Donât postpone⌠permanently discontinue this policy.
This is was a reckless attempt, a blind attempt at possibly appeasing investors. If this awful policy goes into the platform to any extent itâll cause not just a lot of damage to the platform. YOUR ENTIRE PLATFORM.
We should do this to all our games, take the TerminalMontage style of response. That will get em listen⌠i hope anywaysâŚ
Love the optimism, but⌠sadly, probably not. Although that would be pretty funny (even if it makes players mad)
Kinda the goal of it, weâre the small other side of the coin, the real issue here is the fact most players donât even know this change is coming. getting them to know and understand whats at stake is probably whats needed.
Even then, roblox can do whatever, its their platformâŚ
A platform with moderation issues, pedos, and other messes⌠but its Roblox, thereâs not really another platform like it.
They need to accept this instead of wiping their past from the minds of new players
Theyâre trying to become more like âother platformsâ when in reality they would be better off doing their own thing
Even worse is that they still constantly try to please investors with this. Very clearly it almost never works as their stock price dips considerably. A very erratic way for a public company to behave.
I personally think that the Roblox Corporation has low self-confidence. Since all the other companies have this âseriousâ image, Roblox is actively vying for that since theyâre now public. Only problem is that Roblox doesnât really have that image. Everyone kinda just treats it as a funny little lego game. Roblox is trying to shed that image because in their eyes, it doesnât appeal to investors. However, in doing so, they alienate their fanbase.
the fact that this post has more likes than the number of replies
Yeah that looks pretty acceptable for this policy.
worst update in robloxâs history, get ratioâd.
If I wake up in 2014 - 2015 and this is all a bad dream, I donât think I will be to mad.
I think itâs safe to asume that Roblox isnât going to let us use their classic assets either?
