We do. We truly do. However, those same out-of-touch fossils know how to make money off of the oblivious people on the platform (AKA most users <13), so if anything, they’re actually making a good decision, corporate-wise!
Roblox is going to see to it that they make the metaverse. We’ve tried to convince them that it isn’t a good idea, yet they don’t seem to want to listen, as they’re too infatuated with the idea of the future.
They’ve established that pattern already. I feel like it’d be really stupid to roll it out quietly because developers will have no time to adapt if they are not aware of this change.
You’re lucky I was off the platform for a couple of weeks, otherwise I would’ve gone completely ballistic and instantly left the platform out of pure frustration. This would’ve been a change that would make John Riccitiello and the rest of the Unity board go “well at least we didn’t screw up THAT badly”
I didn’t think this was possible. I genuinely didn’t. This single change not only being considered but even planned to happen is proof enough that the future of making games on Roblox is not a bright one.
This change would’ve obliterated at least 5 of my games. And the strangest part of that is that I am LUCKY to only lose that much. Some people can have their entire catalog of games + their literal livelihoods obliterated with a change like this.
To Roblox: I’m glad this change has been postponed, but that’s not good enough. Get rid of it in its entirety. It is completely unsalvageable, end of story. If the change is implemented in even half of its capacity, it would be enough for many a developer to leave this platform.
As for fellow developers: Stop being boxed in by Roblox! If you do not think leaving Roblox isn’t what you want to do right now, at least have a plan B in case you eventually do. I recommend Godot, but other engines can work, just experiment and find something that works for you. Besides Unity, for obvious reasons.
Extra rant: Roblox going public has been a literal disaster for the community. Before we’d be unlucky to get two or even three truly controversial updates a year. Now it’s a monthly, sometimes even biweekly occurrence. It’s funny how we were mad about stuff like Builder Club being renamed to Premium, now I’d love to see updates like that happen again if it meant updates like THESE stopped happening.
“heh… hehe Hahahehe- that’s a good one! hahahahehehaha haHA. REAL NICE!” - me when roblox says postpone instead of cancel
Don’t postpone… permanently discontinue this policy.
This is was a reckless attempt, a blind attempt at possibly appeasing investors. If this awful policy goes into the platform to any extent it’ll cause not just a lot of damage to the platform. YOUR ENTIRE PLATFORM.
Kinda the goal of it, we’re the small other side of the coin, the real issue here is the fact most players don’t even know this change is coming. getting them to know and understand whats at stake is probably whats needed.
Even then, roblox can do whatever, its their platform…
A platform with moderation issues, pedos, and other messes… but its Roblox, there’s not really another platform like it.
They need to accept this instead of wiping their past from the minds of new players
They’re trying to become more like “other platforms” when in reality they would be better off doing their own thing
Even worse is that they still constantly try to please investors with this. Very clearly it almost never works as their stock price dips considerably. A very erratic way for a public company to behave.
I personally think that the Roblox Corporation has low self-confidence. Since all the other companies have this “serious” image, Roblox is actively vying for that since they’re now public. Only problem is that Roblox doesn’t really have that image. Everyone kinda just treats it as a funny little lego game. Roblox is trying to shed that image because in their eyes, it doesn’t appeal to investors. However, in doing so, they alienate their fanbase.
You’ve decided to pause the rollout.
That’s the wrong answer. You should scrap the rollout entirely and sweep it far, far under the rug, like any sensible person.
Why do you guys not see that you are destroying your own platform? Why are you trying to fix things that aren’t broken?
I’ll be frank; if you’re not someone that has experience making content for roblox, you should not be allowed to make changes to the creative process. This is so… blindingly obvious to every other creator in the community, as made apparent in this thread.
This update genuinely feels malicious in nature. This is the kind of stuff that will mysteriously lead to a mass exodus of content creator from your platform. And to show that you still plan to go ahead with it later down the line is plain abhorrent.
This is not simply being tone-deaf to the community. It’s actively trying to harm the community. There’s simply no other way to put it.
EDIT: I understand there are potentially unavoidable problems happening behind the scenes that could be forcing your hands into pushing this update. But whatever it may be, why would the solution be to push this nonsense on everyone? Why not address the issue directly, and potentially be more transparent with the community about it? Why not run polls? Why actively do one of the things that could harm the platform the most? How do you think this update would affect the platform in the long term? This is so dumb and could’ve been avoided in SO many different ways, way before it would’ve had a chance to blow up like this…
