Experiences using Marketplace Items - Policy update

And they split god knows how many into a PM thread for some reason.

I am hoping there will be some clarification on this soon.

I know that when the platform switches fully to a service model that Roblox will not want other studios/brands using any Roblox IP content when they are building their own non-affiliate IPs and selling non-affiliate merch. That makes sense.

What concerns me is how this will be implemented. Will all Roblox IP assets simply vanish like audio did throughout all existing games?

It is mind boggling to think of all the Roblox-made models, textures, scripts, etc that have been made available for use on the platform over the years simply ceasing to exist in games.

What will happen to their own catalog items? Will they continue to sell them when the platform switches or will they all go off sale? I can imagine that they would want to clear themselves of being competitors on this service model but it’s hard to say. I’ve wondered a few times if the devaluing of the Roblox limited market could be part of clearing the slate so to speak for the new cohorts that will be joining the platform.

Right now there are more questions than answers - things like the future of R6 and 2D clothing assets. It’s inevitably going to be phased out but will we get to be grandfathered in and keep and use what we already have of classic items or will they be inaccessible?

Sooner than later is the best time to clarify - there will need to be some time to prepare, longer than devs were given for audio. I hope this will not be another ‘designed to fail’ moment for devs as a way to clear the slate.

2 month anniversary of Roblox learning that not all of their decisions are going to openly accepted by the community :tada:

To add on that’s gonna be extremely annoying for the players because they have to deal with a prompt for everything they equip

Let’s not forget removing guests and bacons!

sorry for late reply but what exactly are you implying here my good sir? roblox is being self destructive and valuing investors over their community, but the investors see the unhappy community and therefore don’t want to invest in roblox. roblox is too blind to see that they have to make their community happy to get investors in the first place.

i still think the roblox dev who came up with this should be thrown out the skyscraper window like that one meme template

Ever since the r6 r15 feature was revealed, I think layered clothing will critically break games. Dynamic heads already broke some classic games I played while wearing a dynamic head (not the ones that move, just the little silly 2D ones, but it still detects them as moving faces).

Watch Roblox add this update as a special Christmas event.

“Merry Christmas! You can’t spend your holidays playing your favorite games because we deleted them! Now buy more subscriptions!”

Honestly if roblox pulled that on us i would just up and say/do something diabolical/controversial so I get my account deleted (so I can’t have access, because eventually I would regress, roblox has been part of my life for over 5 years now, and it would be very hard to quit), and never look back. I think a lot of other people would do the same, to be honest.

Not like I planned anything this Christmas anyways…

I think if Roblox pushes this, the response will be on par with Spez addressing Reddit regarding changes to their API.

Wonder how that turned out for him. Oh wait I remember… (Profanity warning)

NGL It’d be funny to watch a roblox version of that video.

‘Respecting UGC’ whilst many UGC creators literally rip-off existing IPs…?

Still no update, so hopefully that means we’re in the clear and this completely thoughtless decision was swept under the rug and won’t ever show up ever again. Right? Seriously, if ROBLOX ever brings this up again everybody might as well quit permanently cause it would be one final stupid decision too far.

I think it’s safe to say that, for now at least, we’re safe. It’d be wise to remain vigilant, but we may just have gotten through their heads with our backlash.

I’ve got the slightest feeling that Roblox will try to push another potentially destructive policy change like this eventually, so everyone should keep an eye on Studio’s notifications and #updates:announcements.

Indeed. If Roblox tries to make it harder for less experienced developers (or those that are using Roblox assets to give their experience a classic aesthetic) to make their dream games, then they (Roblox) don’t appreciate these developers, and they should probably switch to different game engine.
