Very true, pretty much nobody wants this update.
i see ZERO good things in this update.
I donāt need to repeat everyone elseās criticism of the āpolicy changeā, so Iāll keep my thoughts simple on the matter:
The best way to refine or alter this policy for the betterment of the community and the platform is to not implement it at all. No matter what part of this is stripped away, no matter how much time is given to us to make our experiences comply, and no matter what incentives are implemented to encourage people to accept this, it has strictly negative effects for everyone involved. The answer is simple.
Donāt.
i mean, if you publish a hat, that means that you agreed that people will use it.
OFFSALE OR NOT, people will use it in their games.
The worst update after sound asset privacy update
Iāve updated point 5 using your correction. Let me know if that sounds accurate and fair to you, or if I missed something.
I know. Roblos is making the best updates so far!
Yes, people can use it but this benefit doesnāt stretch out to games. You absolutely cannot use them without permission as that is illegal.
Me when I get sentenced to gamer jail for using a hat that looks like a spongebob face on a ROBLOX game:
Catalog games.
any game that lets you try out stuff from the marketplace.
What about those?
Yes, I donāt see how that changes anything, they are still games, no?
Gone. Poof. VAMOOSH.
If this update came through, then Catalog games would be unplayable. Imagine making your dream outfit in one of those games and you get a bunch of purchase prompts! I wouldnāt want to deal with that.
Thatās true.
Catalog games would just be unplayable. (as you said)
and any RP game that lets you use items from the catalog would be also unplayable.
Imagine you trying to join a catalog preview game and everytime you wear items there is auto prompt on your screen.
Or another one, imagine you join a game with starter character with a lot of accessories and it prompting every of it.
Yes. Any game that allows you to make an outfit would essentially be gone.
COUGH COUGHadopt me, royale high, robloxian high schoolCOUGH COUGH
I donāt really care what happens to the game if theyāre knowingly using accessories that they do not legally have permission to use
This is what Iām afraid of the most. I run a smaller RP community on this site that Iāve spent over 3 years working on and Iāve actually lost money on because I refuse to DevEx the Robux as that goes to my staff and dev team.
This entire thing is incredibly daunting to a small team like mine as we cannot account for the outfits saved using UGC items. This policy, if pushed in a state similar to what it is now, can practically wipe away the years of work we put onto the customization script.
Potentially one of the worst changes Iāve seen proposed in the 15 years Iāve been using this site.
Maybe private your game in protest? Iāve been telling everyone I know to do so because of this update.
Iām stating my concern about potential abuse, especially since this policy provides a way for games to get shut down if a UGC creator decides that your use of one of their accessories is now unacceptable. If what I said ended up sounding like UGC creators shouldnāt have ownership over the very things they create, then Iām sorry that I confused you.
- What if a UGC creator finds out about their assets being used as a foundation for a game, which may have already set up their game as such before the policy was made?
- What if a UGC creator decides to revoke permission after their assets were set up as a core part of the game/playerbase?
- What happens if a UGC creator makes a replica of an accessory from a game, and puts that on the catalog, does this give the UGC creator the ability to DMCA, or does Roblox wises up to this kind of behavior and instead goes after the copycat?
I could be missing something or mistaking the limits, since I donāt usually involve myself in this kind of topic, but it worries me that UGC creators could be given the ability to wipe out a game unfairly, since Iām a game creator as well, and this could easily impact me as well.
Iāve announced to the community that weāre fighting against the changes in any way possible. Making the game private sounds good on paper but Iād rather let people continue playing since doing such would just be reductive to the issue - I want people to continue to play the game and express their creativity hence why Iām so adamant against this policy.
Though I feel a game with a MUCH larger population with customization (ATF, or even the catalog games) going private would be much stronger in getting people against this policy. Iām not advocating for it as those games are much more centered around profits (which is fine).
Oh I see.
